V6/custom/2WD value!

Recommended Posts

What value! Took this home for diagnostic purposes this evening and wow! The V6 has a lot of power, I got 22.5 mpg on my 24 mile ride home (mostly 45mph some stop and go) it’s got blueteeth sirus xm apple CarPlay a backup cam remote start etc.etc. Dealers are selling them new for around 28k what a nice vehicle! Has more power then my 2010 Tahoe 5.3 and is much quieter! We usually see Denali/High Country trims at work which there’s nothing wrong with they’re great however I don’t see the value one often and it’s a good deal! I like the front end too. And you still get the nice lowering tailgate and the nice led rear lamps I like that a lot. Wife loves how roomy the inside is and how quiet it rides. Plus it doesn’t ‘look’ like you bought a cheaper one it looks nice with the 20’s. Anyone else get a V6? I’d be totally happy with it over my 2010 V8 it’s got more kick and moves better especially at low rpm.

What is your employee pricing?

And you have made the cardinal sin in the car business (for consumers), you have taken "mental ownership" of it sitting in your driveway!!!

LOL don’t worry I do this from time to time for diagnosis/verification of repair. This one was for a/c repair verification from our used car building. I was just impressed with the value of the vehicle! I would like to drive the turbo 4 next if I get a chance.

GM employee pricing I think isn’t all the much else off the truck. Not like it used to be (so I’ve heard)

I’ve had the v6/4wd/cc since the beginning of May. Love it so far. Do I miss some features from my 18 Colorado z71that was loaded? Yes. Do I want a higher trim level and the mortgage sized car payment to go with it? No thanks. Very happy in my v6 custom.

I love my truck. The v6 is great. I haven't noticed a difference between this and my  05avalanche.  However towing with it, seams a little weak.  But I can live with it since I don't do a lot of towing.

I've had my 2019 Silverado Custom 4.3L v6 2WD since February 2019.  It's not exactly a beast when it comes to acceleration at low speeds, but I'm not sure why that is necessary.  I bought it because I wanted a full-size truck, but I knew I wouldn't be a heavy tower nor hauler.

More important, I finally had the opportunity to drive a 2019 Silverado 5.3L v8 for work... and folks seem to be exaggerating the differences dramatically.  YES - the 5.3L will get you more power.  But here's what I noticed:

* The 5.3L v8 was much louder than the 4.3L v6.  (I used to drive an Abarth 500, which is a tiny Fiat 500 that's been tuned, and its exhaust is quite loud, almost comically.  And I liked the loud exhaust on the Fiat.  But I've come to appreciate the quiet exhaust that the Silverado 4.3L produces.  Some folks want the loud exhaust, so this may be a PRO or CON in your book.)

* The 5.3L v8 accelerated a bit more quickly at most speeds.  But it was never dramatic.  The Silverado 5.3L v8 accelerated a bit more quickly than my 4.3L v6, and this was more noticeable at very low speeds and at freeway cruising speeds.  But the difference was never significant.

I really thought I messed up getting the v6 last year.  After driving the v8, I realized I definitely didn't and felt immediately better.

As for the custom trim versus more-featured models, I've found the simplicity of the custom trim interior to be a BONUS.  I bought my 2019 Silverado, in part, to do a bit of building and tinkering along the way.  And I've done a bunch of that -- at prices FAR LOWER than would have been if I had bought a higher-featured trim at stock.

And yes - I like the custom front-end.  Swap those halogens with LEDs!

It's still.. just a 6.  8 is always better.

I thought the 6 was peppier then my 2010 V8.

Only thing is I would have to put a camper shell on it with a bed rug. I like my Tahoe so I’d have to mimic it with a camper shell.

Anyways I’m not in the market but I thought the truck was a great value for what you’re getting. Very impressed

It's also great value because you can buy that truck for at least $15k CAD less than the cheapest Tahoe.

Leaving out the more factual arguments of whether it has value or not...  I can't drive it. I would always be thinking "should have gotten the v8" the second I want more power out of it. Just how I'm wired, I don't even drive my trucks hard that often (though I am towing).

To me the more interesting "non v8" would be the turbo 4. That is the actual replacement for the v6, it's intended to replace the v6 and not the v8 options.

Comparing the turbo 4 vs the v6; the turbo has more horsepower, more torque, the torque comes on quicker and stays strong (almost full torque at 1500 rpms or so), gets better gas in city and highway, and can tow almost as much (1000 pounds less; but let's be honest, nobody is towing 7900 pounds with the v6). It's also mated with the 8 speed.

I believe the price is the same, they are both base engines, just base engines on different trims. That is the route I would take, if I somehow decided to not get a v8.
