MultiPro / aka Multi-Weak-Point Tailgate

Recommended Posts

Picked up a new ATV the other day and have been "test loading" to find the best way to do it and fit the quad with my bike. As some have posted, GM recommends lowering the upper portion and positioning ramps on the forward center section (preferred) - or adding a support beam across the tailgate with the upper portion closed. I need to get the ATV as far to one side as possible, so the preferred method is not feasible.  I tried with a 2x6 across the gate, but the ramps pushed the tailgate up some and bit into the plastic.  I can use rubber chocks to keep the ramps from pushing forward, but that is a pain.  When loading the ATV (750pounds) with the center section closed, it snaps and pops like crazy - not good.

Anyone have a good solution?  I've only had the truck since February, but, so far, I find the MultiPro a negative versus positive.  If I had the knowledge I do now when I ordered the truck, I would have deleted the MP...

You can swap it for a regular tailgate if you want.

If I had one, and were doing something similar, I would probably fab up something out of metal, with a strip of angle iron across the end of the tailgate for both support, so it doesn't move with ramps, and it's not as bulky as wood.
