2020 AT4 Tubular running boards not aligning

Recommended Posts

I just bought an 2020 AT4 and installed GM OEM tubular running boards and they do not align. The step is placed too far back. the proper fitment would be if the running boards were on the wrong side. when I measure the holes, they are not interchangeable to move the steps forward. When I brought up the issue with the dealership, they dismissed it and said they heard this complaint before. I took the adviser to measure a 2018 that had tubular GM running boards in their yard and they are properly fitting that truck compared to mine. the back portion is too long and the forward portion is too short. The running board goes past the cab and under the box and does not come all the way forward.

There must be others that have this issue?

Didn't even realize it until this post, but mine are the same.  The stepping points for front and the rear are in the right position IMHO are in the right spot to step in and out of the truck.  I see what I mean and this might drive me nuts now looking at it

So the 2018 truck I looked at, the running boards stopped at the cab. The beginning of the tube to the first bracket is long and from the back bracket to the end of the tube it is shorter. This is how it should be for the running board to finish at the cab end.

Our trucks are the opposite. shorter piece in the front and longer in the back creating your foot to hit the rubber ramp up instead of the flat part of the tube.

If you look at this truck below and measure, it is the way it should be. What I am saying is that I believe that there is a problem directly at the manufacturing plant.

Different body style.  Different running boards.  There is no problem unfortunately.

Are they on opposite sides? If you flip driver to passenger side would that get you the alignment you are looking for? Short piece up front and longer end in the back.

Crew cab the step pads are the same size.

Look at the two pics I put a couple posts up.  They match OPs boards.  That is how they are designed.  If you flipped them, the step pads won't line up correct.
