Truck battery completely dead, AGAIN!

Recommended Posts

I am having this problem in my new 2021 GMC Sierra AT-4.  I have had this truck 3 weeks and 2 days and have 3142 miles on it. So the multiple jump starts and one dealer visit is not from my Truck sitting around.  This started one week ago on Father's Day.  I have been looking for any parasitic drainage, but have found none.  I have noticed that my Android Auto acts weird and my phone becomes possessed while my engine is running.  I also have a hard time disconnecting my Bluetooth from GMC Auto.

I am working over 400 miles from home and travel this 2 times (there and back) per week.  I worry about getting to work or home now.

Any suggestions?

I have has the battery die (and had to be put on the flatbed) twice now in 1700 miles. The dealer is telling me I'm "not driving it enough".

The tow truck driver says to me "Yea I tow a lot of these 2020s and 2019s"

I’m having the same problem-every two days battery stone dead. Dealer says I’m not driving it enough. I’m headed back to the dealer for fifth time. Gm said they will send a tech out to work with them this time. Did yours ever get resolved?

Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. You need to find a good dealer that has a good mechanic who knows how to fix stuff.

Not a 25 year old "technician" a REAL mechanic.

I have a 2020 Silverado which now has 5400 miles on it. So it doesn't get driven much. Maybe 2600 per year.

It'll sit for a week sometimes.

I frequently forget and leave a dash cam on, still plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. (shows you just how old I am!  Back when cars had cigarette lighters and ashtrays!)  Even after 4 or 5 days later, the battery is fine.

The camera has to be a constant drain on the battery.

3.0L Duramax fires right up with never a problem or any indication that the battery needs a charge.

Batteries don't die in two days without a reason!

There has to be a short or a drain somewhere and if you haven't done it, check the 4 bolts holding the fuse block in the engine compartment.

Many are loose from the factory and not torqued down enough resulting in a improper ground and dead batteries.

I"m sure someone has already mentioned this, but I'm not going to read the entire thread.

Good Luck to everyone having this problem!

I am having the same issue with a 2019 Silverado LT 4X4, with V8 engine. It has been to multiple dealers, will sometimes go for months without an issue but then will not crank. Will generally run fine after a jump but had to be towed once. Dealer told me it was fixed last time, but it just occurred again. It has been through at least 3 batteries, ECM repair, replacement of a wiring harness that was supposedly causing a short. I've even been told by one dealer that there is nothing wrong with it. Chevrolet is absolutely no help with the issue and has actively ignored my attempts to communicate with them.

Has anyone been able to resolve this issue?

This is certainly not what we like to hear, Iboughtalemon.  Please know, customer satisfaction is extremely important to us. Our team would be more than happy to take a closer look into the concerns with your 2019 Silverado LT. To do so, please send an email to [email protected] with ATTN: Iboughtalemon/GM Trucks in the subject line.

Please include your contact information, VIN, a brief description of your concern, and the name of your preferred dealership. We look forward to hearing from you.
