Rubberized coating on chassis?

Recommended Posts

My 2020 Elevation has a rubberized coating on the chassis. Cursory Google searches turned up the usual it's the best/it's the worst. Not certain if it is applied elsewhere as I haven't really looked.

My 2017 Silverado had a dealer installed 10 year inspection free rust proof coating, which was great. Dries solid, no dripping. The dealer offer this for $999??.

I am not a fan of the oil sprays like Krown.

So, what do I have on there already and should I consider anything else?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Cheers

The frames are hung by the front end and dipped in wax at the supplier plant.

There is (or at least was) a touch-up product available from dealer or from Daubert Chemical

Is there any need to have further rust proofing done? Thanks for your input.

I just purchased some of the Daubert NOX-RUST® X-121B spray to touch up a couple of scuffed up areas on the frame.

Just curious why? Aside from a couple weeks of dripping in the hot weather.

Every vehicle I've seen with it has 4 inches of it on the tailgate and every door. Also the fact that you have to do it so often. 10 year inspection free is the way to go. Just don't know if I need to bother with the pre-dip.

Oh, okay. Just curious what product the dealer installed on your 2017 for your hard earned $1000. Did they give you any information about it? I am intrigued about any type of corrosion prevention as it is a never ending battle here.

It depends.

Imo, on the frame, it's an appearance thing more than a protection thing.

If I was wanting to touch mine up, it would be with the Daubert product.

I do enough gravel road and salt covered pavement in the freeze/thaw conditions of SW Ont that mine doesn't get more than pressure wash to remove salt and mud.  Dust makes it so touch to tell dirt from rust anyway.

Different usage and different environment I might think different.

The wax dip is done to a bare frame, so that coating wasn't 'applied other places'.

I have no idea what your dealer was offering, but it may have been some type of coating to inside and underside of body panels., rather than anything on the frame.

How long do you go between vehicle updates?

Canadian corrosion warranty is 3 yr 60,000km

Rust-thru warranty (perforation) is 6 yr/160,000km.

I'm in Southern ON. Dealer application is as you suggest...wheel wells etc.

This is my 4th in 9 years, but I'm keeping this one. There is a Mr. lube in Hamilton that applies a dripless like coating, solar to the Chevy dealer. Much cheaper. I may go that route and hope for the best. The warranty is solid, so there is always that to fall back on if need be.

Thanks

Get it Krowned now, then a salt eliminator wash each spring.  Best money spent.

The wax that GM uses is useless at rust protection in our climate.
