Re-gen Indication on Dash

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a 2019 GMC 2500HD SLT, when the truck starts a regen out the exhaust is there any indication on the dash to let you know it's active? The first time I had a regen I found out by walking past a super hot exhaust out the tailpipe with no warning on the dash that something is happening. Thanks

No.  There is not any type of notification to tell you when in regen.  The RPMs will be about 200 RPMs higher at idle, and other than that the hotter exhaust as you noted, and a drop in fuel economy.   I wish they would give us notice when in regen so that I can keep driving at 50+ MPH for the 20+ miles it takes to complete the regen.  Last night I noticed the RPMs were a bit higher at a stop light so that was my notification that it was wanting to do a regen.  Got on the highway an drove at 75 MPH for 20 min and regen completed.   For those who don't get enough highway speeds in as in getting it hot enough to regen (it will only actively regen at highway speeds) and the DPF gets dirty enough, you'll get a DIC message to keep driving.  All in your owners manual.
The no regen message and no 4x4 indicator in the dash are my two biggest pet peeves on the trucks up till 2020.  Someone told me they started putting the 4x4 light in the cluster again in 2020?

Huh. thanks for sharing.  Most of the people probably won't even know what that means.  Damn shame that won't put 4WD or 4Hi or something like that

Only three ways to tell if there is a regen going on.

High exhaust temps out the tailpipe.

RPM in D at a stop light may be elevated about 200rpm.

Fuel economy will drop off when cruising on the highway.  When I had my Colorado Diesel, the MPG readout would drop 10-15mpg easily when in regen.  This was observed at anywhere from 45-70mph cruising.

Kind of hard to tell from the poor photo I put up, but it does change from 2x4 to 4x4 inside the emblem.  Not as obvious as in years past though.

I mounted a small yellow LED in my speedo and wired it to the Transfer Case Control Module (X1) pin #12.  Put a blue LED in there as well to let me know when my light bar is on.

I control the light bar via a pneumatic foot switch that I placed on the dead pedal.  I bought it from Pressair if anyone is interested. I hit my limit on photo uploading so am unable to post the picture.  If interested you can navigate to:

https://paauto.weebly.com

where I've posted a bunch of pics of my mods to the truck and the wiring diagram.  I've made a bunch of additions/changes since I posted those pics, but you'll get the drift.

In any case, I wired a master switch (located in the center console) in series with the light bar foot switch so I can be assured all power is cut to the light bar and it's not inadvertently switched on (i.e. by my 17 y/o daughter who loves to drive the truck with her friends!).
