I cant remember what kit the shop got but you tube the delete and you will see how its done. There are few ways to do it.

Delete means the trans fluid circulates and starts to get cooled soon as you start the truck vs reaching the thermostat temp and then circulating.

Yeah I have already seen a couple. The one I saw I think they remove the thermostat completely and then replace it with some kind of plug. I will do some more research on it. Does anyone know why it is like this in the first place? Like will it put more strain on the pump or something and possibly cause that to fail prematurely?

Do you guys still think I should consider an aftermarket transmission cooler even if I decide to do the mod?  Also wouldn't an aftermarket transmission cooler be sort of redundant if the thermostat forces the radiator to hold the fluid until it reaches a certain temperature?

They want the fluid to heat up faster and stay hot for emissions and I'm sure fluid life reasons. But the fluid never cools down once everything is heat soaked because the thermostat will cut off flow.

It doesn't strain the pump, it just wears the fluid out faster.

Just do the mod because it's free and see where your fluid temps end up. You're over thinking this stuff man. If for whatever reason you feel your temps are still to warm, then consider a cooler.

I got a trans go bypass on Amazon. You just have to take the thermostat off pulley and snap ring out pull the guts out replace the guts with the transgo kit all the directions are plain and easy to understand and your transmission will run a whole lot cooler
