online Key cutting for spare key

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an online key cutting source they would recommend for a duplicate spare key for my '17 Silverado? I have found several sources for the "security key" blank. However, I haven't been able to find someone to cut it online.  I've called a couple local key cutters, but they want me to buy their blank at about $25 & then charge another $25 to $50 to cut it. One place wanted $100 for their blank & cutting, with them doing the programing. I'm just looking for an inexpensive online source that could cut from a picture.

I have not done the programing but several online sales outlines the programing procedure, so I was hoping to find someone online to cut & send me the key and I could do the programing.

Let me know if you have a good online source.

Thanks

I actually hope you don't find a source for this.  If you do, it means anyone could read a VIN off a truck in a parking lot and send in for a key.  Seems like a security risk to me.  That is unless they require you to and in one of you current keys to copy.  I know the new keys can be expensive, but at least a local shop has the opportunity to verify ownership before they cut it.

If your dealer doesn't have a machine, they can order them from GM cut by the VIN.  The cut key from GM retails for $53.68.  P/N 23286576.  A dealer must order it with the key code for your truck.

Can't really cut these by "picture".

Also on the programming.  How many keys do you have for the truck right now?  If its less than 2 and a Canadian market truck, a dealer has to program it 2017 and newer.

Ebay has key cutting services but you have to buy the key from them as well.  Its going to run you $25 for the key cutting and $25 for the blank key and you must provide them with the key code for them to cut it.  It isn't any cheaper and at least a local key cutter or dealer is going to be able to guarantee that the key will work right when you buy it.  You might as well just get it done locally and save yourself the hassle.

Not true. You can program the key to the truck with just one key on 2017+. Just takes longer. Read your owners manual.

Save yourself lots of headaches, go to the dealer and order one like newdude.

If they have to program it, then the dealer will charge at their hourly rate.

I would never trust anyone to cut one for me.

But normally dealers don't like to program a third or fourth key.

Now if your truck has a questionable VIN, the you have no choice eBay or Amazon.

Make sure you don't blow any of the body controllers, because they have to be programmed to your VIN.

I can go on and on with different scenarios, but you get the idea.
