Plasti Dipped Emblems

Recommended Posts

After seeing RST Mike do his I figured I'd give it a go. Super easy to do and pretty cheap.

I cleaned them off and then taped off the area leaving a little space around the letters. I ended up doing 6 coats of black and 2 clear but I don't think I needed that much. I sprayed very light each time and let it sit for 30 minutes. After it dried I just pulled off the excess and used a toothpick to get the insides of the letters.

Happy with how it turned out!

Yes, I'm doing this when I have the time. My wife is furious I want to "paint" a brand new truck, but I'm trying to get rid of the little chrome on my RST.  I'll probably power coat the exhaust just for durability.  I'd like to keep the red in the emblems if possible, Z71 & RST if possible.  I'll post when its done.

I actually plasti dipped my exhaust black. Despite what I read about putting it on the exhaust tips (note they aren’t attached to the exhaust piping. They kind of “slide over” the piping so they do not get as hot), after 12,000 miles, they look the same as the day I sprayed them. No peeling, bubbling etc. I was kind of nervous at first, but I figured worst case scenario was spending $100 on new tips. Plasti dipping might save u the headache of taking the tips off.

New member here, and I just finished dipping all my emblems and my tail pipes on my Trail Boss.  They came out great!

What was your process for doing the Z71 badge? That exactly how I want mine to look. Thanks.

I sprayed it just like normal.  6 coats of black and 3 coats of clear gloss.  I pealed everything off and the whole emblem was black.  I then went in with a tooth pick and scored around the red of the badge and peeled off the paint from just the red.  It went fairly smooth.
