Hey all,

I have been trying to track down a rumble on deceleration from about 30-18mph when coming to a stop.

I noticed my truck has pinion shims with the thick end pointing towards the front end of the vehicle. I have gotten a few loaners while my truck has been in for the rear window leak (all crew cab 5.3 8spd 2wd). They are 2020’s and they don’t rumble and don’t have pinion shims.

Wondering if only 2019’s have shims?

Also wondering if some trucks get shims and some don’t? Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me but I might pull them and see if it helps the driveline angle.

Also noticed that the u-bolt torque was somewhere around 45 ft/lbs when it should be north of 70, so I cranked those down and hoping that helps - if not, gonna pull through shims.

I've pulled the shims out and the rumbling problem got worse.  Don't waste your time.

I was wondering if you were gonna chime in. Did you ever make any headway on narrowing it down to what the problem might be. I just torqued the u-bolts to proper specs so hoping that helps some.

I gave up.  I put some Ridge Grapplers on so I don't even notice it anymore.

That’s exactly what I’m going to do. I’m trying to get the leaking rear window squared away first and then I’ll start adding aftermarket stuff. Would love to be able to enjoy the truck but so far it’s been at the dealer more than my driveway.
