Someone make me a kit: 1500 front end on 2020 2500

Recommended Posts

Who/how might I get a custom kit made putting the 1500 headlights and grill on the 2500? I’ve looked enough to know the whole front end on the 2500 is different than the 1500 - not a swap plug and ply like previous models...

There’ll have to be someone out there offering this up...

No.  Not going to work.  And lots of cooling airflow will be sacrificed.

Just curious.  Why would you wand a 2500HD to look like a 1500?

Not the whole truck, just the headlights really. I think GM did a good job with the 1500 Silverado front end.  I do like all the other changes to the bed, interior, etc.  Everything mechanical is good, it's a fully capable truck.  A lot of power, smooth transmission, pulls my little trailer like there isn't anything behind me.

Just like anything cosmetic, not a lot of reason or rhyme, just like one thing better than the other - but enough that it's eating away at me.  Sometimes folks to look at forums like this, see that there is an opportunity to make some money on some custom stuff.

I don't think any of the body parts from a 1500 will fit a 2500HD In any case.  GM says the only  sheet metal shared with the 1500's is the top of the cab, so it's unlikely anything would bolt up going either way.

It's said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and that's a good thing.  I like the Silverado 2500HD much more than the GMC, which in my view screams bling and rice. The GMC wheel wells are odd shaped and the orange marker lights in the middle are atrocious.  The front is chrome way beyond what I consider to be in good taste - GM needs to tone them down a little.  If you like them OK but I'm not a fan.

I can dig that - it looks good.  GM wanted a distinctive look for the HD's so that they would not be mistaken for 1500's but the one, pictured above, is a looker.

Gotta admit- that looks damn good!

I’m still super happy with my LTZ front end though.

They could do this, or something very close.  Just put the headlight on the top like this/1500's, not under a foux headlight like the 2500's.  If they did a refresh for 2022 and made plenty extra parts, I'd be happy to retrofit.

The Silverado HD front design drew design queues from the early 60s Chevrolet trucks. Hence, the turn signal above the headlights. The Colorado and Canyon previous,s gen were also like that. Actually, the current Sierra taillights and near exact from the previous gen Canyon. Well, without the leds, of course. GM has always tried to incorporate previous truck styling queues into the newer designs. Sometimes, it's more noticable than others. A few people balked at the 2014 Silverado that went back to the stacked headlights, similar to the trucks of the 80s.

I could see that look if they ever went back to offering an 1500HD.  I prefer the new HD's the way they are though.

It's a far cry from the 60s design.  That design put a turn signal not just where headlights would naturally have been, but up on the hood.  They were clearly amber to designate being a turn signal, and didn't draw from the natural placement of a headlight.  This styling is more like a fake headlight, made to look clear for the most part, and in a place one would generally expect to see a headlight.

I'm not hear to bash this and bring up things like the Aztec, but if it truly took the substance of the 60s styling, it would have been higher up and maybe been amber like a turn signal.  That might have actually been a very cool retro look, moving everything up a few inches.

There is a guy at GM that has his hands on the Aztec, Colorado and perhaps the mid 2000's Silverado that is running wild! lol.

Maybe you put a couple motorcycle buckets in the place of the turn signal aka faux headlight, and have it look like the 70's C/K, which was awesome:

@rivera.aaron.a It draws from the 60s design, doesn't mean it has to be identical. Today's hoods are relatively flat in depth compared to years back. There's no "lip" that comes down into the grille like before. Perhaps if they had an amber lens instead of using amber bulbs, you could see the similarities more. I think if they did that, though, many would scream that it's too busy and colorful. With the switch to LEDs, most vehicles are going with the white/clear lamp configurations in the front now. It gives a cleaner look.
