2017 Paint Chipping/Bubbling

Recommended Posts

I noticed this spot a year or so ago, and of course the dealer wasn't even interested in taking a look at it. As expected, it's getting worse. Now there are small pieces of paint that are flaking off. Being that the hood is aluminum this must be oxidation, but it's pretty incredible that it showed up this early. This truck is hardly driven in the winter and is constantly garaged so it definitely wasn't harsh environment that contributed to this, just faulty parts/paint. The worst part is that this is the edge that is directly in front of me when driving, so you can't un-see it! I'd imagine that I can't expect any support from GM on this? So while I can live with the condition in the short term, what's the long term solution? Can I just have the hood repainted, or since there's oxidation would I need a complete new hood?

It's hard to say what the long term fix might be. I will say that my 2016 had numerous paint chips on the leading edge of the hood. There was a thread going around some time back on Facebook started by "Chevy Trucks". I chimed in about my paint chips and they instructed me to contact them via messenger. I did and long story short, they created a case with my dealership which ultimately ended up with my hood getting repainted under warranty. You might look them up on FB and see if you can get any traction that way. I figured it was a losing battle, but they did me right surprisingly.
