"Gorilla Glass" Windshield Option for GMC

Recommended Posts

I have been reading and looking into a tougher, chip & crack resistant option for windshield replacement glass. A week after I bought my truck, I get into it one morning and there is a huge crack starting from the drivers side outer edge extending all the way to the middle of my driver's view. That was it, no option for repair, an immediate $400 replacement. Then a week later there appears another crack of the same length and severity starting at the rearview mirror and extending all the way the the middle of the passenger's view, lucky me. I live in CO, so the temperature swings and rugged terrain make this pretty common. They say "every vehicle purchased in CO comes with a free cracked windshield." I was reading about this new "Gorilla Glass" that you can get for Mopar. A Motor Authority article from last fall mentioned that there was an option like this in the works for GM & FCA. Does anyone have any insight, information, or thoughts on this? I am about to just breakdown and get a loan for bulletproof!

I also live in Colorado, and of course, my windshield is cracked.  I would love to have a stronger glass so I will be paying attention to this.

I disagree with the improper install comment as a major cause for cracked windows in Colorado is due to the sand/salt that they drop on the roads in the winter.  The front of my truck is full of rock chips in the paint. ?

Another from Colorado here.  Most of my vehicles average 1 windshield a year.  This is 100% due to the gravel on all the roads plus the filthy 18 wheelers dropping sand, dirt and rocks endlessly as they go down the highways.  I added 0 deductable glass coverage with the insurance company for all my vehicles.  It's pretty cheap, $2-3 per month per vehicle.

We tried to get the Gorilla glass for my wife's 20 Wrangler Rubicon, but it was out of stock nation wide.  Her factory glass lasted about 2 months.  My 18 Silverado isn't cracked, but it is beginning to look pretty sand blasted.
