"Invisible Trailer Camera" hooked up

Recommended Posts

So today my dealer installed the invisible trailer camera. They really played around with all the settings and mounting options until they got it right. I'm very pleased with the work. Here are 2 shots. One with me going down the road with no car behind me, and another when a vehicle got behind me.

That looks good! I need to try and trick mine just to see how it looks 13' high on the back of a 5th wheel.

The dealer said they're training taught them it works best when it is at bumper height of the tow vehicle. 13 feet up will probably never "mesh up" with the software. They ended up mounting mine on top of the bumper of my trailer. That makes it about 18" lower than its supposed to be. So they had to play with all the other calibration numbers to even it out.

While it works on your truck, I would not recommend that everyone puts it that low unless your trailer dictates it being that low.  You can see how the side views are not stitched in properly to the rear camera.  It works but not ideal.  On RVs you may not have the correct spot available due to windows, spare tire, bike racks, etc.

You are absolutely correct! The ideal spot on mine was not available due to the spare tire being in the way. The spot where it is mounted was not perfect but the best choice given the options. I would imagine it being 13 feet up though would be WAY worse.

Yeah, I use the normal view or the view where it shows behind the camper and the 2 side mirrors. I know it won't mesh well being that high up, but I may try and see how off it is. Plenty of time to tinker with things lately, with many campgrounds either shut down or not taking reservations currently.

Mine is not a spare tire, but the living room window. If I went below the window, I'd be staring at the bike rack. ?

What was the install cost if you dont mind?

It was free. When I ordered the truck from the factory, I ordered it with the Invisible trailer cam. When GM shipped the truck to my dealer, the camera was laying on the back seat of the truck. We made an appointment for me to bring in the trailer and they installed it for me free of charge. As well as the trailer tire pressure monitoring system, the Kicker multi pro tailgate speakers, and the under the seat storage compartment. All installed free.

My new 3500HD has the Gooseneck/5th Wheel Package so a 7 pin/4 pin Trailer Harness socket is installed in the bed. There's also a Trailer Harness socket on the bumper, which has the 7 pin/trailer camera connectors. Why would GM install the 7 pin/4 pin connector inside the bed of the truck? I can't imagine a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer without brakes so I can't see the 4 pin connector inside the bed ever being used. The only place for me to connect the invisible camera I'll be mounting on my 5th wheel is on the bumper. Am I supposed to run the camera wire from the 5th wheel hitch area to the back of the bed then up and over the tailgate to get to the bumper? That doesn't seem like a good idea. With the Gooseneck/5th Wheel package it would seem GM should have instead installed a 7 pin/trailer camera connector in the box, like the one on the bumper. Any thoughts or insight here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Just curious... how are the cameras attached to the trailer. Drilled in? Adhesive? I’m really wanting one of these new trucks cuz I go camping a lot but the corona got everything on hold.

Normally its drilled thru the back of the camper. In my case, it's mounted to the top of the rear bumper on the camper.
