Crank no start 1990 Chevy K1500 5.7L 4x4

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 Chevy K1500 5.7L 4x4 pickup that cranks but wont start. I can get it to start by spraying starter fluid in throttle body but only for a few seconds. The fuel pump was just replaced in October of last year. I can hear it click on when i turn the key. I haven't checked fuel pressure because I cant afford to rent on for $160. Could my fuel pump be bad? Or fuel relay?Incidently this 350 motor is a swap I got to replace my old motor that that went bad. Truck has run since motor swap but only for a short time. Then file pump went out and I replaced it back in Oct. Any help would be appreciated.. Thanks..

What fuel pressure tester are you buying/renting that is $160 for a TBI motor?  You can purchase one from Harbor Freight for $25.  https://www.harborfreight.com/fuel-injection-pump-tester-62623.html

You need test the fuel pressure to determine if you are getting fuel to the rail or not.  The fuel pressure should be 10-13 psi on a 90 TBI.  If you have that, the fuel pump is working and I would start looking at the injectors.  If there is no fuel pressure, the pump you put in properly failed and will need to be replaced.
