Anyone seeing any deals too good to pass up??

Recommended Posts

I read an article that was saying new car sales were estimated to be 17M this year which was a slight drop from 2019. About 3 weeks ago they revised the estimate to 13M new car sales. I believe that is still high. I think used cars/trucks will flood the market in the next few months from rental car companies, and as mentioned above repos. For new cars/trucks to sell they will need deep discounts. Now in saying that, will it affect the HD truck market as much? Probably not, but since I am not in a hurry I will wait a month or two and see what happens to prices.

my view is always better to have something than not, so if you think you might its better to have than not.....youll most likely never struggle towing anything with a diesel so it opens up more trailer options maybe as well

same reason I want a 2500....I don't tow but haul heavy loads though not all that often but its just so much nicer to have something if and when you do need it....and its better to have more than enough than just barely enough.....my view anyway

what do you guys think is the diesel worth an extra ~10k? I have nothing to tow at this point however down the line maybe get a trailer for a family of 4

The new diesels have a ridiculous amount of power now and are marvels of modern engineering.  They are worth every penny, IMO, but I tow lots of different things, and just prefer the way the diesel drives, even unloaded.  You are going hear a different take from the gasser fans, and to a large extent it is personal preference.

When my daughter was 6 she loved Disney princesses and dolls.

Then it was dance, gymnastics, and cheerleading.

When she was in 7th grade she asked to go on a mountain bike ride.

She joined her high school MTB team.

I bought a Toy Hauler camper to take her to the races.

I traded my 1500 in on a 2500 Diesel...

Now she’s in college but loves going out in the desert with the side by side when she’s home. She also likes going to the range and shooting a few rounds.

You never know what your kids will want to do..

I love my diesel and would never have anything else BUT I tow and haul heavy frequently.  A diesel is much more expensive to purchase, more expensive to maintain (think oil changes, fuel filters, DEF fluid, etc.) and when stuff breaks it is much more expensive to fix (think injectors, turbos, glow plugs, etc).   You need to weigh the extra costs and overall size and weight against your needs.  Everyone loves a big bad diesel, but if you don't need it then it may be worth the savings to go with a half ton gasser which is still pretty capable.

I had 2015 Duramax and it was great. I traded before the warranty was up and now have a 2020 6.6L gasser. We tow our 14.5k lb 5th wheel around 10 times a year (currently in a holding pattern) and the rest of the time it is a family hauler, grocery getter, DD, etc. Many short trips, also. If I towed in a mountainous region more often, I may have stayed diesel, but our tows are generally in flatlands or rolling hills. I may get another diesel down the road, but the gasser seems to be doing great for what I use it for.

Not sure the logic here. Rental companies release cars off mileage and use. No one is using. Used cars and trucks only flood markets when people are upgrading or in economic downturns. We are not heading for a recession. We are in a temporary pause. Car sales will track to be as normal minus the 4 month pause. Even with your updated numbers, they are tracking for great 8 month run.

Logic is if I am a rental car company and I am not renting any cars and I am looking a a huge fleet of cars I better start liquidating some vehicles for cash flow...

I as many others believe we are in the beginning of a recession, as nice as it sounds to have a “pause” you just don’t flip and switch and turn the country back on. I hope you’re right unfortunately just not the reality.

Since the rebates cannot be combined with the 0% 84mo, its

2020 1500 AT4 6.2L ~59k w/0% or ~53k no 0%

2020 2500 AT4 6.6 gasser ~57k

I was quoted under 3% by more than one lender when I bought my truck 2 months ago.  I doubt rates are worse now if you have a decent credit score.  I'd take the $6k up front and pay the 3% if you are going the 1500 route.  The payments are $2 less per month on $53k over 84 months at 3% versus $59k at 0% over 84 months, but if you sell or trade the car early or go for a shorter term you are even better off starting with more equity in the truck.  And better still if you take out a shorter loan or put some down.

GM Financial gave me 2.7% for 72 months based on either my good looks or good credit score on my HD.  My CU was at 3.2.

Rental car companies did manage to liquidate 3500 used rental cars down in Ft Myers a few weeks ago.?

I can assure you this will be a bounce back. You need to look deeper into the economy. It’s what I do daily. I’ll wager an AT4 on this if you want. We bounce back by June 15th. Honestly, may start climbing now. A lot of the unemployed are asking for unemployment. It’s even a larger stimulus than was designed.

The large companies with over 500 employees are committing and spending dollars up 15 percent compared to the last 2 years. Think what you want, but your arrogance is what gets you into trouble. This is a pause and we will slow down again in September. Then expect a large push in Feb 2021.
I would get out by Summer/Fall of 2023.
