Cleaning 2014 Chevy Silverado Rims and getting hard water spots off truck.

Recommended Posts

Hi All-

So my Rims are horribly caked with break dust and road grime.

I've heard a few options but would love to hear them all.

Also the truck has some deep hard water stains.

Is there something good to take the stains off?

Thank you hope to hear the best options

Thanks again

I'm not sure on the rims if the stuff is baked on, it may never come off.

The paint stuff may or may not be easy. You'll need the right buffing tools and some time to try and get the paint clean. I'm not a detailing nerd but I have a porter cable orbital buffer that I use all the time.

I would wash and clean the truck as you normally would. Even go a step further and use dawn soap to strip the surface of any oils or wax that may be on it. Then I take my clay bar and detailer spray to really clean the surface and get it very smooth. If you've never done a clay bar before you will be amazed at how smooth it can make the paint feel again. From there I take my buffer with a medium cut compound to clean the surface. This step with my buffer is what tends to take away the hard water spots and small swirl marks in the paint. If I want to go further I use the buffer with a finishing cut compound. And finally I have what I think is called a glaze or surface sealant to protect the paint. Past that apply a spray wax after most washes to keep the paint nice and clean.
