Considering buying a Corvette C6

So, I`m selling my M3 right now and looking to replace it with a Corvette C6. Anyone ever owned one and/or can tell my something about it? Anything special to look out for? Drivetrain configurations to avoid? How about prices for parts? I`m a mechanic and can do everything by myself, so the only thing that costs me something is how expensive parts are.

What year are you considering to buy?

Myself I'd be a little leery of buying a 2005-2006 model as they are the oldest and some things on each of those I believe are year only parts. Like computers and such.

The manual is a great transmission. The 6 speed auto's are good transmissions in 06+ cars, tuning goes a long way in making them even better. C5 parts are cheaper than C6 parts in some cases, so I guess it all depends on what parts we are talking about. The majority of stuff for the basic maintenance stuff should be the same but I'd expect brakes, suspension parts to cost more on the C6 as they are bigger brakes and use better/newer suspension.

Do it, my favorite model run.

I believe 2010 was the year when they mad substantial changes for the better, Corvette Magazine has been rating the best buys through the years and just did one for -$25,00.00 cars, and they were surprised on how many C6's they were able to find in that price range.

I had a 2008 C6 ZO6. The 2006 and 2007 ZO6 models were the ones that had the problematic LS7 engine. Valve train issues. Buy one if you like but make sure somewhere in the records of the car that this issue was dealt with.

I had a 2002 C5 and then a 2008 C6 ZO6. They were both very fun cars to own. My main reason for getting out of them was because in Alberta we only really have about 5 months of the year that you can enjoy them. It was to much money to have tied up in a 5 month of the year car, at least for me. And I needed a vehicle that I could get more use out of. Traded it on a Tahoe.

There are lots of great Corvette chat forums. Corvette Forum, Digital Corvette, etc. Plus looking at the Corvette Museum website is a must. Could be useful for you to check out several of those websites. If you are in a position to own one of these great cars my advice is to go for it. The comradery around the people that own these cars is awesome. Find a local club in your area and join it.

Even though I don't own one anymore it is still one of my life goals to visit the Corvette factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky and also visit the Museum across the street from the factory.

My advice, go for it!
