2016 Silverado Humming 4wd Auto

Recommended Posts

Hello, was seeing if anyone might know what this could be or has had the same issue. I have a 2016 Silverado with 60k miles. Whenever I'm in 2wd the truck is fine at all speeds. When the truck is in 4wd Auto at highway speeds, when I let off the pedal it makes a humming noise from the front. Not when I'm pressing the pedal only when I let off the pedal. Any info is appreciated. Thank you.

Maybe check what the front diff fluid looks like. See how much metal is in the oil and on the drain plug magnet.

Worst case is that bearing in the front diff has gone bad and it needs a rebuild.

Welcome to the site.

Describe "highway speeds", that you would feel comfortable being in a situation where 4WD was needed.

It may just be the transfer case not liking how fast you are driving.

The transfer case does not give a damn what speed you’re driving in 4auto.

transfer case hum in 4auto is normal

Personally i don’t notice it at high speed because it’s not loud enough. There is definitely a hum in every k2xx I’ve driven.

I always scold customers for driving in 4X4 auto. They engage it because sales told them to and leave it on for months! Then they’re all sad when the front diff bearings go bad, well you wanted to use 4x4 all the time and not service it and that’s what happens.
