1997 Vortec 7.4 MFI fuel pressure regulator

Recommended Posts

how does the fuel pressure regulator come off the fuel rail on a 1997 chevy vortec 7.4 MFI engine?  We have the fuel rail out and the vacuum activated fuel pressure regulator appears to be attached directly to the fuel rail.  There is not the normal clip holding it on that you would see on non-MFI engines (TBI).  Its either pressed on, or somehow attached to the bracket which is attached to the rail.

Thanks, I have looked at those clips on other models.  looking at the pictures I have included, can you direct me to where the 'snap ring' is on the rail at the regulator?  I don't see it ,and the TBI versions use a different regulator.  This is an MFI inject with a direct mount regulator that appears to be a welded part of the fuel rail. That would not make sense since it is a wear part and likely has a filter in it.  When you say snap ring is that a "C" clip or a ring that has the two little holes for the spreader pliars, and exactly, where is it...?  Don't want to bust the rail....

That's right.  A little tough to get out, but easier if you have the rail off.  Look in the slot around the top (vacuum hose) end of the regulator.  Internal snap ring with 2 holes.  You will need a good pair of snap ring pliers.
