Think they came to their senses. In 13k miles I’ve never seen a single ad in my 2019 and never heard of anyone else having ads either. People here complain about everything, so we would know.

The navigation system didn't work well from the day I picked it up so I just don't use it.  I tried it for a while but gave up completely when it wanted me to take the PA turnpike EAST to get to Pittsburgh.  Since I don't live in the very western part of PA that was clearly wrong.

Well, guess we're lucky, it's never sent us the opposite of where we wanted to go.  A few years ago I trusted WAZE over XM Nav Traffic to get through a traffic jam in Atlanta and after getting run around in circles by WAZE with cranky kids and my wife staring me down (she insisted WAZE was bettter LOL), I followed the Nav unit and we got out of that nightmare and back to our hotel.  It also more recently beat WAZE on two large highway closures, it told me to take the toll road instead of the interstate.  So now I scan ahead before departure.  We like WAZE too.

Since you brought up WAZE l hope you can answer a question.  I have never used it because I don’t want to use my phone while driving, but I know many love it.  Can you use CarPlay to run it on the truck’s screen?

On the 2010?  Not that I'm aware of.  Aftermarket nav units, yes.

You never saw an ad and you like me you never will on your built in Nav; it is a stand alone system not dependent upon the cell phone/4G Internet connection. Only thing related to the Telnav are the maps on the SD card......and not related to OnSDtar either which can provide traffic info through a separate app on the screen.

The article above references intertwining the ads through a reduced cost Internet service connection to the Infotainment system. If you don't want it;' you don't pay for it and don't get the ads.

Maybe the '21s will work better getting maps through the cell phone Bluetooth without requiring a wired connection to AA or Carplay. But nothing can replace a factory integrated Nav system. Besides I want everything in the vehicle without having to plug in some other piece of crap every time I get into the car......dozens of posters crying that they have to push a button to defeat the auto-stop (which can be done without looking on the fly), but they have no problem pulling out a wire and connecting without a complaint.

Well factory Nav suits me fine and I don't need no stinking separate cell phone either to get everything I want when in the vehicle. Full touch or voice control of all radio stations, dozens of albums on the USB drive, & built in OnStar cell phone with $5/mo. basic plan. All modules interface so the information on the main screen is duplicated in the dash info.cluster.....and main screen can be viewed split screen for Nav and other function(s).

am not a huge fan of plugging in my phone either but better than nothing I guess......I would take factory nav as well, just one less thing to deal with

what does onstar do if I were to reconnect it besides emergency services?

Not much.....for the $5/month you get 30 minutes which must accumulate because I presently have over 200+ on each vehicle.

And having a built in Nav doesn't prevent someone from plugging in to AA or Carplay and getting all features available on the cell phone without a built in Nav..

Just curious. How much did the navigation package cost for those of you that have it. I do not have it on my 2020 RST and I am not sure if it was an option. I know I can get the SD card for about $50 and then go to the dealership to program the computer. I imagine probably about 1 hour shop rate to do that.

I do use my AA through my phone now. But when I do cross the border I don't have data anymore so AA becomes useless. (not that any of us can cross the border right now) I would just rather have it in the truck if possible.

The SD card by itself is useless, except maybe for updating maps on existing systems........all it contains is maps. For the $450 or so MSRP it inclused an activation code number that is used by GM to reprogram the IOS radio to IOT Nav capabilities and to reprogram the DIC module and 4" speedometer DIC to interface with the 8" screen and transfer data and duplicate maps and abbreviated directions from the main screen to the 4" screen directly in the driver's view. Programming takes about 1/2 hour and once the map has been mated to the VIN number it cannot be used in another vehicle. The dealer won't and can't call GM to install the reprogramming software (not available separately)  the radio and speedometer modules without the specific ID number for the upgrade which is what you are paying for when buying the upgrade kit.

This does not appear to be anything that can be programmed by other than GM.... apparently it also it makes changes to the IOS radio BIOS becuase the radio boot up and requirement for profile data and map boot screens are changed from the boot-up without the Nav.

That sucks.

But thank you for the explanation. guess I wont bother taking the SD card out of a buddies truck when he turns his truck in 6 months. lol
