Slow Infotainment Boot

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm trying to understand if there is a problem with my infotainment, or if this is normal. Does anyone else's infotainment boot incredibly slow? This is my first Chevy in about 7 years, and it just feels ungodly slow compared to my previous vehicles.

From start it can take up to 30 seconds to start playing music (I use a dedicated USB stick). There are times when the infotainment will load in about 20 seconds, however the steering wheel controls for volume, next track, or microphone will be unresponsive until the truck has been running for about 1 min. The same goes for the dedicated volume knob on the center console.

Is this common and just a poor software build, or is this an issue to discuss with the dealer?

If the stick is in on start up then its probably reading the stick before its starts playing. The infotainment has a lot to do now on these vehicles and the stick is probably last on the list. More songs on the stick more time it needs. Try starting the truck up with the stick removed and after everything is up insert the stick and see what happens bet it still takes about 20 seconds or so. Songs are big files some at 4 megs per song. It also depends on the stick itself it might have a low read speed that comes with a cheap in price stick. There cheap for a reason.

I'm not really concerned with saving a few bucks here and there, so its definitely not a cheap stick. It's a 256GB 3.1 with 130MBps read speed. I started it multiple times both in and out, and the boot is the same. It's a little slower with the stick in (5-8 sec), but that is obviously because of how it indexes the files. I'll admit, I'm likely spoiled as my last couple of vehicles have had a built in HD where I kept my music, so they booted significantly faster. 15 sec max for the whole system functional and music playing.

What doesn't change, and is the most frustrating is the audio control functions on the steering wheel. Regardless of stick in or out it I still have intermittent issues where the wheel mounted controls won't function for about a minute. It's not every time, but about 1 in 5 times.
