twavor
Hey all, Had a question or two and thought this would be the best place to ask. First of all, my older brother has a 90 Chev 1/2t 2wd and the HVAC control head has gone funky like they all seem to do sooner or later. I have checked prices for him and he has even tried finding a used one but hasn't found a good used one yet. Before he goes and spends $169 for the new one, is there any other alternatives that you all know of? Thank you for any replies. Travis
Wingnut
I had that problem in my 92 with the HVAC controls. Sometimes the buttons wouldn't do anything, sometimes they would....Sometimes the whole shebang would just go blank. I took it out, took it apart, and cleaned it up. There were a few capacitors that had come loose from their connection to the man board. I just cleaned them up as best I could, and put a fresh drop of solder on them. It has worked like a charm ever since. (I did this about 4 years ago.) Hope this helps a little. BTW- I'm not anything close to an electrician, so you can rest assured that there is not much difficulty involved in doing what I described. I got a free 32" TV from a buddy because it quit on him....Same issue with electrical components coming loose from the board....I fixed in in 20 minutes. I have been using that TV for about 3 years now. Edit: .....I just read your sig....If you are an ASE certified master auto technician, this shouldn't be much of a problem for your to fix......IF it's the same problem that I had.
