key fob transmitter faulty?

Recommended Posts

Well, let the issues begin :(

was driving home today, when I shut off the truck an error popped up on the DIC "No Remote Detected". Now NEITHER of my key fobs are working. Won't lock/unlock the truck and of course won't start it either. After discussing with on start and the dealer we can get the truck to recognize a key fob ONLY when it's in the transmitter slot (which is apparently in the slot in between the two cup holders). This is a common symptom if the key fob battery is low/dead. Which is odd because I've had the truck for 3-4 days. But ok, it's possible I guess.

Replaced both batteries in the fobs but it's still doing the same thing. Have an appt at the dealer tomorrow at 10am so we'll see what they can find.

In the meantime, let me know if anyone else has seen anything similar. Super annoying when I can't use the key fobs on a 4 day old truck.

Yeah not what I was expecting at all! However I did cancel my appt with the dealer today. The problem fixed itself and later last night and all day today it’s been perfect. I’ll have them take a look when I get my first oil change probably next week.

Darn, I wish you posted a fix to this. My 2020 2500HD is only 3 weeks old and all of 600 miles and the FOB stopped unlocking the doors today.. It started when I pressed the unlock button twice and hold to roll down all 4 windows. Then I started the truck and moved it only 50 feet, killed the engine and the message popped up "Remote Not Detected " .. I didnt think much of it, went in the house, 5 hours later when to remote lock the truck and nothing. Thought maybe the battery was dead so I replaced the 2032 battery. Nope, no lock the doors. Went to the truck and message indicated that remote not detected. Put the remote in between the cup holder and the truck will start. Kill it and it puts up the message Remote Not Detected. Gave up and lock the doors by hand and decided to sleep on it, and post on here hoping someone has had this happen with a solution.

Hey, sorry I don’t have further info on a fix but I do have additional info as of a couple days ago.

So up until a couple days ago that one event was the only time it happened, and as I mentioned it went away on its own, never really figured out what happened.

Now, a couple days ago I took my truck in the shop to get my windshield RE-tinted as there were some small bubbles that never went away. When I picked the truck back up the remote was acting up again exactly the same as before. Then it clicked, when this happened the first time was when I got so my windows tinted the first time! These are the only two times it has happened.

So, I believe maybe some water/liquid maybe got on a sensor or something causing it to act weird. I don’t know what specific sensor or electronics related to the key fob are near/under the windshield but somehow it’s gotta be related.

Luckily each time it went away on its own over night which also could make sense if it were a liquid issue (ie fixed itself when it dried)

Any chance you were recently doing any similar work with any sprays/liquids?

Your situation sounds different than mine but hopefully it will help or that it all fixes itself for you

Five antennas for the remote, none of them are near the windshield.  For push button start, one is behind the radio screen, one in the center console, one in the rear bumper behind the license plate and one in each front door handle.

Thanks, good info. So doesn’t sound like it was one of the antennas then.

I still think it’s somehow related, just not sure how exactly.

Could be a coincidence of course but the only two times was immediately after getting tinted. First time got all windows tinted, 2nd time was just Re-tint of windshield which is why I suspected windshield area.

I just had my windows tinted, and the same thing is happening with my 3500HD. I've tried everything possible besides ghosting it off a cliff in frustration.

70% Windshield / 20% Surround - Be a waste if I had to remove the tint for the reception—used 3M Crystalline tint.

I hope it clears up overnight. ?

You should be good in the morning, super frustrating I know. But both times mine went back to normal within 12 hours or less and then perfect since.

Mine just will not reset Driver 1 remote. That same night that Driver 1 stopped working so did Driver 2 remote. So in the morning I had to unlock the door with the backup key and the alarm went off. I had to put the remote in the cup holder area and start the truck and that did not work either now. So pushing buttons while it was in the cup holder finally stopped the alarm with Driver 2 remote.

I put Driver 2 remote in the cup holder area and drove to the post office. Upon getting there Driver 2 remote started working.

I thought well maybe I can try that on Driver 1 remote,  but that still did not fix it. New battery in it, drive around in the cup holder area, push all the buttons, Driver 1 remote is still dead.

At least Driver 2 is working right now, but I am sure not going to roll down all 4 windows with the remote for now.

Another update: Driver 1 remote has now started working. I left the battery out of it over night. Put the battery in upside down first. Took it back apart and flipped it over to the right side. Positive is down in the case BTW.

Put that thing back together and the remote worked.

Oh well, at least I didnt have to see the dealer, and I dont need to roll all 4 windows down with the remote. I really wish it only rolled down the front 2 and not the back 2 anyway.

I had my windows tinted the other day and momentarily couldn't unlock the truck after they completed the job. I started getting a little concerned and then it started working again. I've had not problems since.

Well now I’m definitely confident it’s directly related to the tinting process, gotta be something to do with liquids, then fixes itself once it dries.

I had all windows tinted on my 2019 1500 when I had it and don’t recall having this issue. Now I want to know what it is exactly! Haha

I have a 2020 GMC Denali 2500HD and mine did the exact same thing after tinting the windshield and front windows. key fobs stopped working. I can only start the car with the fob in the transmitter pocket. mine hasn't gone back to normal yet, but its only been 4 hours or so. I am assuming like the person above that something must have gotten wet and it will right itself (hopefully) when it dries.
