Low fuel warning on DIC? (not just a light)

Recommended Posts

Not really a troubleshooting issue - but just wondering about a low fuel warning?

I'm at 60 miles to empty, according to the dash.

The little "gas station fuel pump" light under the fuel gauge is still green. I just started the truck and looked - the light is amber for startup, then turns back to green. The gauge is on the last tick near empty.

Checking the app, it says "refuel immediately" and "low fuel"

Does the DIC warn you when you get to 50 Miles DTE?  Or do I just get an amber fuel pump indicator?

Why wait to this point to refuel?

Curious.

Running the tank this low is hard on the fuel pump.

Gas lubes and cools the fuel pump prolonging it's life.

You should be close to when it chimes and activates the amber indicator.

If it's like the previous gen, the 'range' will change also to 'low'.

The range changing to 'low' and activation of the light/chime don't necessarily happen at the same time.

iirc, the app seemed to suggest refueling earlier than the truck - but I don't use the app for that purpose.

The 'range' calculation is based on the mpg the truck has been getting 'recently' -- and the truck has no way of knowing if it will continue to be operated in a  manner that continues to give that mileage.

Yes, I'm one of those that when close to home often runs it down til the warnings activate. My favorite fuel location is about 20 miles away...

Thanks everyone. I have a 5 mile trip this afternoon that should get me under 50 miles. I'll report back what I see.

No I don't ever like running this low - sometimes when you're towing you have no choice. I'm trying to learn what this truck does before I get into a bad spot.

Thanks again!
