glossy b-pillar scratches?

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a 2019 AT4 and it has glossy b-pillars. Are these easily scratched with normal washing? I'm thinking about getting a protective film put over them because I've seen other vehicles with scratched up covers and it looks pretty bad. Searched around but I haven't found anything mentioning it. Hoping that's a good thing but it might be wishful thinking.

Yeah they’re easily scratched in my opinion. My truck was in for some warranty work and they washed it while it was there (would have told them not to do it had I known they were going to) and they’re pretty scratched from the one was. I going to try and correct them myself. I think you’ll be fine if you hand wash with an appropriate mitt and two bucket method.

What’s your secret? How do you wash it?

95% of the time it never sees a brush or wash mitt. It has a lot if wax on it and i have a very well kept brushless laserwash by me. The owner of it is there daily keeping it up. Uses great chemicals and provides very good water pressure. I go almost weekly just to keep it clean. I use high end microfiber towels on the truck. If it needs friction i use my wash mitt at the self serve car wash.

Basically i am just very aware of what touches my vehicles and how.

RST has all matte black trim which won't show scratches, but the Traverse has glossy black "B" pillar trim. Three years and not a scratch and like another poster mine have never seen a carwash.

I hand wash only......a blast of clean water from a hose followed by a heavily soaped sea sponge to lubricate and remove the wetted dirt. Real skin chamois to remove water. Not a single pin scratch on the trim or swirlmark in the finish.

Dirty wash water and drying towels aree the easiest was to mess up the Jello-hard finish on the trim and body.
