Rebates, Incentives, deals.

Recommended Posts

I am worried about this too! I ordered one at the end of January and it just arrived Tuesday. Last year the rebates were $500 more in April than March. Since it hit the fan, I think I am going to make them wait until April before I do the paperwork...rates already went down. I'm hoping rebates will go up as well.

My friend just bought a loaded $57000.00 2020 trail Boss yesterday he got $3000 off from dealer, $1000 rebate from GM and 0% for 84 month. So he left the dealership with a new truck and a check for $1000 and his first payment is July 18 2020.

Many of you don't like this but this is free money every cent he pays comes off the balance, he has no intentions of paying on his truck for 84 month but he can it's free money. Another guy in the dealer took a check for his trade of $16000 cash and financed the whole amount of his new truck he walked out the door with a check for $17000. and is using GM free money.

If I get the truck I ordered in February I'll be doing the same thing.

never can go wrong with 0% financing, if you can get decent chunk knocked off as well...if not you would probably be better off with rebates....the term of the loan is irrelevant because you can always dictate in what ever way you choose w/o penalty.....I wonder if dealers will stay open...in LA they kinda shut down most places of business unless a necessity per se....food, med, service, etc....but I can see vehicles fitting that criteria.

The focus of this thread is factory rebates but there is another part of the price - dealer mark up.   While they want to maximize profit there are times when businesses need to take drastic measures to survive.  We could be at or fast approaching that point.

How desperate are dealers to move the inventory that they have on their lots?  I don’t know the answer to that but I suspect that they are in panic mode. Floor traffic is down and sales are off.  California just told everyone to stay home. The dealers must be worried about that scenario for the whole country.  They are promoting shop at home and they will deliver to you.  How many car buyers are going to do that?

Rebates may get better but dealers are hungry now.  I am going to throw a low ball offer at them and see what happens.  If I get the deal I want I won’t worry about rebates getting better.

rebates are made up number anyway really.....let them figure it out how to work numbers, I just asked a few if they will even be open and they said yes....the first quote I got wasn't too promising.....about 4k off on 2500, but the urgency of emails and repsonses has increased dramatically over last few days....like you said who knows, but I have a % off MSRP I am willing to pay and if not I will wait to switch trucks.....no hurry and also implied that to them as well....

if I cant get smokin deal whats the point....I certainly don't need one

I did get a 59k truck for 45.2k confirmation on a RAM 2500 (I know)but this dealer is known to play games so I wont hold my breath....still waiting for chevy dealers to respond and this is so cal ….

With my CU offering 2.29 for 72 months the 0% financing isn’t anything special considering you have to leave a 6500 rebate on the table. Interest is only around 3500 paid over the 72 months on 50k financed. So by taking the special financing and looking at the whole picture in my situation it would cost me 3k more.

I bought my 2020 Trail Boss in February.. MSRP $54815 - $4682 dealer discount- $5500 customer cash - $1000 auto show cash - $750 customer loyalty = $42883 .. I think I did ok and  they matched my CU 2.49% financing

This is what my local Chevy dealership has been offering for the past 6 weeks. If they start offering 0% and financing and rebates I will consider it. My concern is they are going to low ball me on my truck.

I actually traded my 2016 LT and got what Kbb said I would on the high side.. I also showed them the trade in offer I had from a different dealership I walked out from because they were trying to do the old bait and switch ... only thing is they won’t do rebates and 0% combined it’s one or the other.. in my case the rebates were a better option.. I could have easily qualified for 0% but I would have left $7250 in rebates . It would have cost me more to do 0%.. as far as trade do your homework and be prepared to walk out . There’s a lot of dealerships and they are thirsty for your business

I am wondering about this also.  I almost had a deal I liked before everything got shut down.

Has anyone gotten trade-in values before and after the virus hit to be able to compare?

At some point the dealers are going to have to be giving big discounts. Maybe next month? Not sure but Ford earnings came out and they were down $600 million and we were only in this pandemic for 1 of the 3 months of the first quarter. The 2nd quarter we will likely be in it for 3/3 months so unless they give buyers even more incentives they’re going to be way deeper in the hole than the first quarter.

Not so sure there will be any big deals now. Dealer only have the truck they got on there lots. The truck plants are down and there lots are empty. And when they are gone they are gone. It would takes months to fill the lots back full of trucks to sell.
