Adding a 12v light

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Just looking for some information, or to get pointed in the rite direction. I have a 2019 Silverado Custom ECOTEC3 4.3L V6 crew cab. I just had an ARE cap installed (v-series looks great) and I'm looking to add a 12v light bar on the ceiling. I want to run/tap into a constant 12v power source so I can switch the light on/off from the bed at anytime. Where do you guys recommend I get this power from? Im an electrician, but will be the first to admit this is not my wheelhouse and I would like to do it rite and learn something!

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

There is a hot wire on the 7 wire trailer connector if I'm correct. I think sometimes you may have to add a fuse or relay in the fuse box but the wire should be in place. I like to use posi-tap connectors for things like this

Thanks for the response. Yeah my original plan was to tap the constant hot on the trailer connector. Come off with an inline fuse and then up to a switch. Just looking to see if there was any issues with this, or a better way to go about it.

Yep

This is the easiest way. I did this for my truck bed lights.
