Ill bet the MAYO clinic just made it to the "Fake News" hate list.

Here is what is true. Everyone is tired of IT and their wish's, hates, protest, arguments, rants and personal attacks for something different will not phase this virus one bit.

Can't skip the school year. The kids need some form of learning, whatever that may be. They will lose the basics in math and language arts.

Maybe. But not what I was hinting at. People with kids in school use school as a baby sitter.

I know your a teacher but if what you say is true for the sharp supple mind of a 10 year old then school would never end for us older ones whose best learning days are behind them. Also not true....right?

What I don’t understand is these mlb players wearing masks. They are tested daily.

Also if masks are so effective
Then quit closing everything down and open up. Don’t understand this either

Ryan B.

I have another one for you. People are messing their shorts over schools opening. Day cares are open, have been for awhile. Maybe 6 years old is the magic number. After that you’re screwed. Nothing has been truthful since the beginning.

If you don’t use it, you lose it. That’s why I’m not asked to help with homework. ?

What’s worse is forcing kids to “lose it” for no reason whatsoever. Period. Even Mayo Clinic would have to acknowledge that. As I said, pick whatever study you want, none of them suggest leaving kids out of school for any length of time is the right thing to do. None of them even suggest there’s a moderate risk to teachers, let alone the kids.

This is why people’s frustration is palpable.

1.) There is no KNOWN herd immunity to this virus.

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/herd-immunity-and-coronavirus/art-20486808

2.) The infection rate required to achieve herd immunity is over 70% of the population. Same article.

Even if current infection rates are 10 X higher and we keep the current death count as of today diluting the MR the number of dead to .43%, the number of dead to achieve herd immunity in a world population of 7.8 BILLION is staggering.

23,332,400 DEAD to get immunity IF it can even be done.

You or know one else knows.

23.3 MILLION DEAD

This is 5th grade math folks not fear mongering

Fractions of a percent are HUGE numbers when dealing with pools of BILLIONS.

:wtf:

Please leave the Medical infomercials to somebody like myself.

It's complicated Grumps but so called Herd immunity is reached around 40% with attack rate here in USA.  This is not 5th grade math it's mass confusion from Dr's within and Crying public "Google" know it alls from outside!  Trust "MOOK" he not lie, he speaks from fact and decades of knowledge..........Is it guaranteed?  Nope not at all but the memory of our T cells will enable us to get there even when it's say 9 months out Post your 1st Covid infection and your positive again for #2.  That insignificant amount of memory is enough to perpetuate through the masses over next few seasons.  Leaving you with even milder symptoms than 1st time?  Sounds encouraging Hey?

Grumps, your best option is taking as much mass transit and people encounters/gatherings etc.  Get the bug...get over it and we as humankind move forward.  This will make more sense to you come this time next year and millions, millions of others.  It's a shame the lies and misinformation is Left/Right sided.

Let me think about this. Mayo 70% or Mook 40%....Mayo or Mook.

Yep, 5th grade math.

Well and some common sense.

328,200,000 million in the USA give or take.

14,500,000 reported cases

The claim is under reported by a factor of 10

Real number then is 145,000,000 infections.

What is 40% of 328,200,000?

131,280,000

By your numbers we have herd immunity

NOT!

Common sense and 5th grade math.

Like this. COVID-19 kills people over 60 with preexisting conditions

Yep. It also kills people UNDER 60 with preexisting conditions.

Distilled.

I kills people with preexisting conditions.

It just so happens the majority of those people are over 60.

But it will take a vulnerable five year old too.

An over weight diabetic 30 year old.

A 15 year old with Lupus

a 40 year old with IBS

So pinned down with your own logic

What is the next spin

Doctor MOOK?

Interesting thought that life isn't a reason.

I'm 66. Graduated at 17. Out of K-12 50 years come spring.

When I was in school we actually learned BASICS

How to extract a square root.

How calculate the tangent, sine and cosine.

How to solve fractions and decimals.

We learned why the answer was the answer and not just how to get the answer or memorize it

With those skills and by 7th grade I skipped over the next two years and could have graduated a Freshman except the need for four years of PE. My skills are better now then at graduation. Why? I took an interest, am self motivated and was taught the BASICS.

How on earth can a child loose what he has not been taught? My oldest girl graduated and still can't read at a 5th grade level. But she can give you the square root for any number with three digits without knowing how to work the problem and still can't solve a story problem. She's in her 40's now.

We make important choices based on information. Less important once perhaps on the flip of a coin. When people promote disinformation, misinformation and WAG's as facts people get hurt. That sort of thing from an adult I find inexcusable and at times, criminal. Still it is up the decision maker to fact check his information. Sometimes it takes no more than common sense.

Example: People buy things based on consumer reviews that treat these reviews as if they were Gosple. Tires come to mind. When I bought my truck everyone told me to rid myself of the factory 'junk' Bridgestone Duller 684 II. Told the wear like crap, are dangerous under braking and so on. Tire Rack readers were most unkind and I heard story after story about how they wore out at 20 K miles and made horrible noise. After two years new reviews by older gents such as myself were lauding the tire for wear and safety with multiple examples of well over 100 K per set...at 5/32' no less.

Common sense tells me that if this guy can, it isn't the tire. Especially when several somebodies do it and in the end so do I.

What does this tell me about those that swore they were junk at 20 K? Were those "facts' reliable? Did they represent the products ability? Or did they say most people pay no attention to alignment, pressure or rotation and drive like there butt is on fire everywhere they go?

People in this thread toss COVID-19 'facts' around like they were from God's mouth to their ears and yet the math, the logic, the reasoning doesn't hold a cup of water. It makes less sense when forum contributors hail themselves and their knowledge above those with the greatest knowledge. Fifth graders  in the back of the class saying the Professor is wrong and they should be teaching the class.

What is the REAL point of this thread? It certainly is for the advancement of truth. What it has been good at is creating division and animosity. To what end? You all going to solve some problem for the world?

Do you ever re-read your babbling, look as if someone from the outside, and say to yourself man this guy is an arrogant know it all .......... that is 99% of all your posts. I’m the smartest, let me show you, you’re so dumb, let me make something up to show you. Take a chill pill. Don’t you know, stress/anxiety/paranoia messes with your immune system?

Babbling is 99% of this thread.  A lot of these posts, like this one for example, have gone past being positive or constructive (thread guideline #2).

Most of the stay at home people’s facts are like watching CNN. They post numbers they like with incomplete facts. Then they leave out mitigated info. Like showing a picture of doctor Fauci at a ball game with his mask off. They say it’s ok he knows the people around him or he’s hydrating. But when the president does it OMG he’s sending out bad optics. Those very same news organizations are in the process of losing a very costly law suit. They purposely miss reported a story of a certain high school student named Nick Sandmann. So yea, I don’t use those news organizations info. But the lock down people do. It serves their agenda.

I totally reject the premise, so no, life isn’t a reason to keep schools closed. It’s actually a reason to open them. All this talk of common sense and yet you want to throw millions of healthy kids under the bus to protect a number I could count on one hand.

Even if it were necessary, why not make special accommodations for only those who need additional protection instead?

Oh yeah. Forgot. Doing that wouldn’t inflict misery on everyone for the benefit of Joe Biden.

^^^All null and void if you wear your mask correct?^^^

We all know how and why the numbers are the way they are. Let’s not kid ourselves here. It’s not because of you and me.

I definitely don't think masks make other safe practices null and void.  Masks are believed to be most useful in protecting others.   Their masks protect you.  Social distancing is what I believe to be the most effective defense.  You and I have a responsibility just like everyone else. "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem"  is my mantra!  There are still too many who think this virus will take care of itself and it is only a problem when it takes a loved one.  The amount of effort some individuals exert to justify not participating in basic protocols far exceed the effort required to comply with common sense ways to keep the spread under control.

Funny how Mayo is now down to 70%  I will let ya keep babbling as boasting my "Creds" is something I never have done.....40% is where Herd immunity starts effectively slowing the spread of Covid-19.

Which is all you really need to know.  No, we are not at "Herd" immunity my last figures have USA population at 15% that is the "Average" don't get all goofy now Grumps.

We are now looking at 25-35% of NYC average currently/previously infected.....Almost there in that local and you can already see the "TREND" big boy even if you "doff" the masks the aka: 2nd wave resurgence is most likely just not going to happen....I know it's a bummer to the LEFT but it's just how it is.  Then we have to listen to CUMMO talk smart in couple months with the "Look what I did"  lol.....sure it ran it's course Cummo good job!

Was in Brooklyn today in a very busy area. Nobody wearing masks outside. Building I went in everyone was however it’s a govt building so I’d expect so. I work in a different borough and I’ll tell you nobody wears a mask there. I haven’t been to work in a month so I don’t know what’s going on now but let’s just say everyone should be sick there. Massive gatherings of all types. Again, I’ll reiterate that I do wear a mask
