285 45 22 vs 305 45 22s

Recommended Posts

Hey guys ive ordered some black oem replica +24 offset 22s for my pearl RST.  Also ordered 285 45 22 tires. After posting on here about future upgrade to 305 45 22s I was told by 2 members that they would work fine with my stock 4wd suspension. So now im considering returning the 285s and ordering the 305s. I think they would fill the wells out better and not look so anemic. 0.8" wider and taller. Should ride better too with more rubber. What y'all think? Will it kill my mpg's?

To be completely honest I checked that size and prices are double that of 285 45 22 and 305 45 22s. I just cant see me paying that much for tires. Budget minded I guess.

Yeah,

I don't think you could fit the 285 50 22 on the truck without a front end level, or some slight trimming. I have that size on my trailboss and it's a nice fit. It comes with the factory 2" lift. I have about an inch of clearance on the wheel well to the tire on the back when I turn from lock to lock. Front edge has plenty of clearance.

I just checked the custom offsets truck gallery to see if this combo is out there. I saw one in the stock bucket but it looked leveled to me in the photos.

Can't hurt to try. Mount them up and see if they fit!!!

Why didn't you go with 285-50-22? That's the 22" size used for '19 up.

No '19s use OEM optional Bridgestone 275/50R  22s

Stock 275/50R22s are a 32" diameter tire

The 285/50R22s are a 33" diameter tire

Yep wasn't thinking. I had 285 in my head from previous tires. I have 275/50/22 Michelins now the OEM '19 22" size.

The reason 285/45r22 are better priced is because there an older oe size 275/50r22 is a fairly new size and not a lot of manufacturers are making it right now. Ride between 285/45r22 and 275/50r22 should be pretty similar as both tires are about the same height and width isn’t much different either (10mm) and 305 are gonna be a lot more because it’s purely and aftermarket size as far as I know.

305 45 22 is 32.8 x 12 tire. Was just concerned about fitment and extra width sucking mpg. Kinda wanted to decide before installing so no regrets. Thanks for input so far.

Also if you switch overall diameter too much your spare tire might not be big enough and you will have to deal with that too.

Im thinking of getting a better tire for my 19 high country.  I dont want to dish out crazy money for the nittos, and see the falken wildpeaks come in 285/45/22 i dont have a level or anything just the stock supsension.  Do you think this tire would rub using stock 22" rim?
