Would you consider a Z71 Package with a Duramax?

Recommended Posts

I had the z71 for my last two trucks(14,17) and now that I have the max tow rst it drives so much better than the pathetic ranchos.  Those shocks are so bad off road and will bounce you all over the place. My rst has the twin exhausts, wheel well liners and a factory bedliner.  I would test drive the z71 over some dirt roads back to back vs any other package shocks.  Living in michigan and specifically our off the grid house up north made me hate those z71 shocks to the point where I'm one of the many that criticized gm for still keeping them around.

I bought the Duramax Z71 specifically so I could get the 2 speed transfer case, everything else was just gravy.  I will say that these shocks need to be swapped out ASAP, this truck is so dam bouncy, Bilstein 5100s will be installed when ever they become available.

I like the idea behind the Z71, ie skid plates and 2 speed t-case. However the new emissions diesels need to regen and if you do off road for days or several hours and it goes into regen then what?

This engine is pretty stealthy as far as the regen system goes.  The only noticeable effects are the engine temp bumps up slightly and the fuel economy drops a little as far as I can tell.  It also only does it when you're cruising above 35 MPH or something like that and it doesn't matter if you shut down in the middle, it just picks up where it left off next time.  I love my 3.0 Duramax and would highly recommend it to anyone considering it.
