2019 to 2020?

Recommended Posts

I recently made a deal trading my 2019 SLT for a 2020 AT4. Depending on where you are, the rebates for the AT4(6500)/Trail Boss(6000)  right now are the best they are ever going to be IMO, so it may be worth a look. I wanted to give my initial impressions between the two trucks. I made this trade primarily because of the 10 speed transmission. I always "noticed" the 8 speed in my 2019 and it drove me nuts. I had a GM Buyback in 2016 because of the 8 speed. My SLT needed a legitimate pause from reverse to drive before taking off or there would be a bad shift for the first one of the day. The 10 speed seems to disappear within the truck. I dont notice it at all. Both trucks have the 5.3. Luckily, GMC's in my area hold their value very well which allowed me to make this deal without taking a bath. I know the AT4 package has alot to do with the ride but overall if people are contemplating the same move I would highly encourage it. I also acknowledge that many people on here have no issues with their 8's. I just wanted to share my experience.

I just pulled the trigger on an AT4 with the 6.2/10. Traded '17 ZR2 with dreaded shudder issue, without the rebates no way I'd get into  this truck! I'll wait til the "learning" period on the 10 speed trans is over before I give it my blessing though as i am feeling some minor irregularities in the shifting and RPM's at light pedal. I paid $625 below invoice plus $8500 in cash back/rebates from GM. (MSRP was $65835)

The 6.2/10 speed combo is probably the best part of the whole truck. Outside of an occasional low speed clunk, is probably the best engine/transmission combo I've had in a vehicle, definitely recommend it.

Man, glad I stumbled on this. I’m about to do the same exact thing. 2019 Denali with the 8 speed and looking at a 2020 AT4 with either gas motor depending on what I find, not torn either way.

How does the AT4 ride compared to the Denali? Haven’t driven one yet but the magnetic ride I do like.

I was debating between the SLT 4x4, Denali 4x2, and At4. I loved the AT4 in everything except the ride. I couldnt get used to the sway that it had from sitting a bit higher up. It soaked up potholes and manhole covers like they didnt exist. It drove as nice, if not nicer, than the denali. I just didnt like that i felt like i was on a boat rocking side to side, so i opted for the SLT with the premium plus package, which also has the 10 speed. The only time i feel a shift is from first to second. Its not harsh. but noticeable. Every other gear feels literally like nothing. Its amazing.

The Denali no longer has the magnetic suspension, it does have an adaptive suspension which works well, but not as well as the magnetic. I have a denali and I'm very happy with the ride.

I couldn’t compare it to a Denali, but compared to the SLT, I like the ride better.

I haven’t driven a Denali. But, my 18 Silverado rode “ok” just like a 2020 Sierra Elevation that I drove. They didn’t ride poorly or anything. Just felt like a truck. They felt the same. Then I test drove my AT4. Totally different. Totally better. Smoother, better drivability. I’m surprised at how good and quiet the ride is with a taller suspension and more “aggressive” tires.

They unfortunately didn’t have a Denali for me to try or I would have.

Denali rides way better than the AT4. There isn't really a comparison.

Well. Maybe in 10 years I’ll upgrade to a Denali. Lol

Unless you intend on being limited on suspension kits, I wouldn’t! They do ride well and love the 6.2 but have failures for many years with their dampening suspension. If you do decide to lift one you’d be limited to a mid range lift.

No worries of that. If the AT4 didn’t come with a lift, it wouldn’t have one.
