bomber
On my 98 3500 cc my drivers side directional is not working, but wait it's working, no it's not? Seems a short or something in the receptical the bulb fits into. I replaced the bulb, cleaned out the rusty goop that was in there, sprayed out the socket w/ wd 40 and put some white lith grease in there to keep moisture out. same results Question, if I bang on the lens it will come back on. ( same with wiggling the bulb if un assembeled ) What is the heavy, thick stuff that it came with? mabe it keeps the contacts and bulb tight? I plan on taking the assembly apart again and really clean it up again. Is there anywhere special too look for trouble on these older style bodies? High Mileage
Dielectric grease or silicon. When new it has more the consitency of vasciline. As it ages it becomes like a hardened putty. Pardon the spelling. And yes it can help a lot of conditions like you are experiencing.
bomber
I tried the delectric (sp) grease yesterday after cleaning the socket up. Didn't seem to help . Then I tried WD 40 with some white lithium and thought I was OK. Not. At lunch I took it apart, scraped it up good and sprayed it out with sea foam. It looks like corrosion got at the socket, at one of the contact points . The bright sun helped a lot. Should be good to go!
