Thinking of trading my 15 on a 20....

Recommended Posts

Looking for some feedback on those who have done similar.

I have a 2015 Crew Cab Z71 LTZ 6.2 8 speed.   In general I really like the truck and it has been good to me.  Currently it sits at 50k miles, it needs tires, a new AC condensor, the mylink touch screen acts up from time to time and I think the Rancho shocks are about done. Trade in value on KBB and NADA is about 30k, which would put me at about 240/mo payment as the 15 is 100% paid off.     I never offroad, so don't really need the 2.5 levellift, offroad tires or z71 package.

This RST is intriguing me....looks like it would be much better for a daily driver that sees more highway than anything else.   Still want a truck as every other week I am loading up something at Lowes, or towing my boat and like the comfort and safety of having my two boys in the back of a large vehicle opposed to a sedan with all the idiots on the roads......

Had a 14 which was Lemoned and my 2016 ..And now i have 19 Denali. Love the new truck in every way . 6.2/10 A is fantastic/like the looks/love interior space. Suspension feels good and so does frame.

My only gripe is interior look/layout. I do like the soft materials.

I did have rear window leak which so far as been good since it was fixed.

That truck you linked up is beautiful ride. But im not sure im ok with$ 8k for essentially wheel/tires and stickers, if i correct what the Rally edition is ?

Good luck! 12k off is nice!

I currently have a 2012 Z71 crew cab. I'm looking at the RST's myself, with the Z71 package. That looks nice! Plus, the 6.2/10 speed. I'm still a few years out, i'll see how many more cracks I can develop in my dash before selling.

If it were me, I would go for it.

almost 13k off is great, more than %20 msrp. I've been looking at trading also, literally waiting til the end of this month to go pull the trigger(birthday present to myself). I currently have a '14 black LT crew cab 4x4 w/ convenience, 62k miles, and the 4.3 engine. trade value is anywhere between $19-23k. I've been researching since thanksgiving or so. Like you, I've decided on the RST. This time i'm getting the z71.. I live in west virginia. every road is shot. I think the trailboss looks nice, but I know the black front and the gas mileage would annoy me in the long run, and the ltz just has too much chrome and i'm tired of it anyway. I don't need the 6.2. i'd be fine with the 4.3, but I want fog lights and I like the look of the RST more than the custom.

It is a good looking truck, I would go drive it and see what you think.

Great thing is, you have a good truck now, so leaving without the new one would not be the end of the world.

Good luck with those trade in numbers from NADA or KBB. I just tried to trade my 2017 Chevy Silverado Z71 black edition that booked at $27000 trade in. Mine was in near mint condition even dealer said so. The best I could get from 3 different dealers was $21700, I ended up selling it out right for $30500. Now I sit and wait with no truck waiting for a truck I ordered might get it in April I hope.

I traded in my 2014 GMC Sierra SLT with 68k miles. Blue Book Private Party $28-33k depending on condition. Dealership low balled at $24k. Took 2 days but I walked them up to $30k. Negotiated price for new truck before introduced the trade. Got $8k off new truck so they were not wanting to pay me my price on my trade until I walked away. Manager called me the next day to make the deal.

The kicker is that I got the 2014 brand new for $36,500 on a Black Friday sale when the sticker was $49,500. I’m happy with that deal!

I guess you are happy with that deal. Here you walk away you'll never hear from them again. It's all in what part of the country your from. I see these great deals and try and get close to the same, it's just not going to happen here. I guess I'm happy someone is getting a good deal best I could do was $6000 in cash back and 10 free Mobil 1 oil changes I'll get buy with that.

I would keep it also, or at least try to sell it privately for a few more bucks. The '15's are the last easily tunable trucks from GM, so you should be able to get premium dollar for yours being a 6.2L

The more computerized they become, the less reliable they are. Not to mention a $10k hike in MSRP for basically the same truck you have now.

How many miles you looking at on the 2015?  Just asking because my 2014 CC LTZ just gernaded the torque converter at 144K!  We don't know how much damage it did to the actual internal transmission at this point.  Chevy wanted $5800 for replacement....I am thinking I may just pull the transmission and have a transmission repair shop locally open it up and take a look inside to determine the gear box damage.  Just replacing the torque convert is a fraction of the cost and i can perform that myself.  Regardless of my 2014 situation I have ordered a 2020 AT4 just because I am ready for a new truck.

My opinion,  yes trade it in!  The value of you truck currently is probably the maximum you'll get out of it.  By August your truck will be 6 years old (by production years)

Yes those are really good numbers. I just signed a deal and ordered a 2020 RST 6.2 extended cab and I got $17.500 trade in on my 2017 LT 5.3 w/ 98000 miles. I did get the new truck at invoice minus $500.00, and my truck will have 110K on it by the time the new truck arrives. Also will be needing brakes and tires soon after that.

only 50k miles.  I had a new converter put in under a warranty claim at about 15k miles and it solved my shudder and other issues

I should have forced GM to do the same,  the shudder would come and go....
