Oil Pressure 6.2

Recommended Posts

The pump is different than old vehicles. Basically “low” pressure when little to no demand and “high” pressure when needed. Freaked me out the first time i saw it too. Normal.

NO, that’s not normal. I was worried too, used to be low while using Wix then went back with Amsoil filter which shot up between 35 at idle and 43 at full throttle, got this from my GMC Service Manager

That blurb from GM is just the minimum spec that is wanted, so anything at that or over would be considered normal.

I see 35-40psi at speed, 30-35 at idle and 60+ at full throttle.

You’re going to have all types of responses, Amsoil filter is running at same exact pressures as OEM filters but Wix XP was half that of OEM and Amsoil.

Most would say they use OEM filters for the sakes of warranty but not all filters are alike and some would even alarm themselves having such of a difference.
What I do know is that I’ve noticed a difference going from 20 at idling to 38 at idling and if OEM is at same as my Amsoil, it’s a no brainer for me.

My oil pressure is reading 40-45. Is this normal? Pardon my ignorance for not knowing. ?

Normal.  Hot idle you may see 25-30psi on the gauge, above 3500rpm you may see the gauge spike up to 60psi+up.  Same with under WOT.

The oil pumps on these engines are variable displacement and can change based on engine load/oil demand when driving.
