hitch carrier security

Got a hitch carrier to increase the room for when we go on family trips (with 3 women you can run out of room quick) For those of you that use these what are some ways that you have secured items you carry on them? Looking at these steel cable reinforced ratchet straps as an example.

Depending on the shape/size of what you are going to put on that hitch carrier, I would buy/build a box to put the stuff into, with a lock on that.

 

Also, depending on how valuable the stuff appears to be (if it's visible, but also take into account how nice your vehicle looks), you may also want to get a locking hitch pin so they can't just take the whole thing off and put it in the bed of their truck (or into their hitch).

Nothing is safe.  Don't leave anything unattended at night and avoid crime prone areas.

mostly worried about stops along the way...once we get to our final destination it would all be unloaded
