GM Authorized Accesory Dashcam

Recommended Posts

Has anyone purchased the Thinkware front or front/rear dashcam accessory packages, and if so, how do you like them?  It's just a consideration at this point, but while some third-party systems may be better, I like the simplicity of having it done at the dealership in pre-delivery.

Be sure you get a 'high endurance' micro SD card.

  • Designed for high endurance so you can record for up to 20,000 hours with no worries (Actual hours of video saved less. Up to 20,000 hours for 256GB; 10,000 hours for 128GB; 5,000 hours for 64GB; and 2,500 hours for 32GB.)
  • Built for and tested in harsh conditions; temperature-proof, waterproof, shockproof and x-ray-proof(2)

I have one in my 2019 LD (old body).  I love it.  It ties in with the OBD port and gives you access to it with a secondary end so you can still connect another device to the port.  On the LD, there is a cut point in the headliner where the mirror is, I was able to run the wires up the A pillar, into the headliner and run them out that slot.  I did the dual camera setup and the rear came out nice too.

If you get one, get the Thinkware app as it works via WiFi signal to the camera to adjust all the settings, allows for a live view if you are in range of the camera, and much more.

Thankful is right on the SD card type too.  Thinkware supplies a 32gb high endurance Micro SD.  I put in a 128gb but it wasn't high endurance and it bricked the card.

I'm interested...this would use the actual truck cams???
Will it record while truck is off ???

Does not use the truck cameras.

It can be set to record when the truck is off.

Thanks for the reviews, everyone!  I like the idea of having the front/rear pair as much as any of the other safety systems offered.  I probably would have been able to get a sideswipe accident 9 years ago turned in my favor (instead of the 50/50 written by the officer) with a rear facing cam in the back window of my current Ram.

I see a SanDisk 256 High Endurance microSD for $51.99 at multiple large retailers... that's not a bad price for the capacity.

My Thinkware X500 will not support a microSD above 64 gb.

The ones Chevy and GMC are currently offering are the F200 (front-only) and F800 (front and rear).  Looking at the Thinkware web site, they handle 128 and down, but Thinkware apparently has no models that support 256.  Not a prob...  $25.99 for the SanDisk 128 High Endurance, and $13.62 for 64.

Mine is about 5 years old.  Their newer dash cams will support higher capacity memory cards.
