After market wheels

Recommended Posts

I see I will have a better choice of wheels if I go to 20 inch wheel, my truck will have 18 on it. If I go to 20 inch wheel and tires can the Chevy garage recalcitrant my speedometer? I have already picked out a set of Halo wheels and some BF Goodrich a/t.

It doesn't matter what size rim you get 20,22,24 etc  its all about total height of the wheel and tire. As long as you stay with the total height of your stock 18" with the 20" your speedo will be fine. The 20s will just have a smaller sidewall.

The Dealership can recalibrate it if you run a package size that is offered from the factory. If it is not a factory option size you can run the Hypertech or the Rough Country speed calibration system. The RC one is around $200.

I went from the stock 17" steel rims and 265/70R17 tires that they put on the 2019 work truck and switched to a 20" OEM rim with 275/55R20 tires.  I called the dealer to see if I would need to have the speedometer recalibrated to ensure accurate speed readings.  They told me that this change should not make a difference and besides, it is not possible to reprogram (which is contrary to some of the things I have seen posted in this forum).    I used a tire height calculator (https://spicerparts.com/calculators/tire-height-calculator) and it seems like the height difference is very close (31.6" with the old set vs. 31.9" with the new set).  So, I assume that this is pretty insignificant and can trst that my speedometer is accurate.  But, would appreciate if anyone can verify this.

with that set up if your speedo says 65 mph you are actually going 65.6  so its very insignificant
