HOW TO----Stampede 2062-2 Hood Deflector Install

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New Silverado owner here. Traded my '16 Camaro SS for a 2020 Silverado LT Z71 4x4. I have to say I don't miss the Camaro one bit lol. Loving the new truck. With all the Chevy trucks and SUV's we've owned in the last 20 years one of the first mods I do is to install a hood deflector. My go to brand has always been Stampede and I have one on our '13 Equinox and '05 Colorado Z71. They are still going strong with ZERO issues. I am in no way affiliated with Stampede....just a satisfied customer. So of course i picked up one for my Silverado. Well I'll have to say I had an issue with the install. First the instructions are poorly written and printed so small my 52yr old eyes need some help reading them lol. Well long story short their customer service came through with some helpful info and some better install photos. So I did the install today and figured I'd do a how to write up for those wishing to install this deflector. Hopefully save you some time.

How to install Stampede 2062-2 HOOD DEFLECTOR 2019-2020 Chevy Silverado

IMPORTANT: Please take your time and follow the below instructions. I did deviate from the manufactures instructions so as always use this guideline at your own risk.

Tools:

Flat head screw driver or trim removal tool (see photo)

Phillips screw driver

Look over the provided instructions from Stampede. They are pretty straight forward but the HUGE gotcha is installing the clips that secure the ends of the deflector to the hood.

First you'll want to install the hood retaining clips as per the instructions. Pay attention to how the clips are installed. Instructions are very very vague.

Next using the trim tool or flat head screw driver remove the hood seal and studs. Their instructions have you remove the seal just at the four spots the deflector mount tabs are but, I found it's a lot easier to remove the seal entirely. The studs will stay in the seal as you remove it. Four of these holes will be used to install the deflector.

Next get a helper. Slide and hold the deflector over the hood careful not to drag the clips on the hood. Here you will put a mark using a grease pencil or some other removable mark on the hood where the clips are. Now using the provided 3M tape, tape where the marks are around the hood. This is where the clips will clip to the hood. This is where I deviated from the Stamped instructions. With a helper align the deflector tab holes with the seal holes. They aren't going to line up perfectly but get close as when you go to install them you'll have some wiggle room to get the fastener in. Clip the ends of the deflector to the hood. Now your helping hand is done.

I installed one clip and screw temporarily in one of the tab/seal holes. As the instructions say DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN as these are plastic. Now take the hood seal and start at one end and begin reinstalling it. As you move down the seal remove the seal pin and install the provided fasteners at the tabs. The seal will flex fine over these tabs. The seal fits snugly under the deflector

Once the seal is reinstalled you will need to adjust the hood stops 1 1/2 turns counter clockwise as per the Stampede instructions. Using a sharpie I marked the stop at the 12 o'clock position as well as the stop housing. Using this mark I turned the stop counter clockwise 1 1/2 turns. The photo below you'll see the mark at the 6 o'clock position. This is after adjustment.

Now slowly close the hood and check your clearances. If all looks good close your hood as you normally would and your done. Now go get a beverage of your choice and admire your new deflector.
