Last week we purchased a used  2019  Silverado 2500 HD 4 x 4  LT Duramax 6.5 bed crew cab with 10K miles on the odometer. We noticed the fuel tank protrudes about 8 inches below the rocker panel on the passenger side.  I have noticed that other similar Silverados the tank does not have this feature. I assumed that the previous owner had added the available 56-gallon aftermarket tank however the first time we filled the tank when three quarters empty the tank only took 24 gallons. Does anyone have experience concerning this issue?   The factory instructions for the aftermarket tank indicate using the existing hardware I am thinking perhaps the fuel gage flote is too short to indict the true level in the thank.

The Diesel fuel tank is on the drivers side and not on the passenger side.

The tank you see on the passenger side of the truck below the front passenger door is the DEF tank. Diesel Exhaust Fluid, the fill port in under the hood up by the cowl.
