Warranty experiences?

Well, it’s looking like my f150 XLT will be traded in tomorrow!  The one thing I’ll give Ford is they have never questioned covering anything under warranty in the 2 f150s I’ve owned.  How good or bad do you find service/warranty experiences with GMC have been?  Will I have to fight if there are issues?

Also, extended warranty or buy it towards the end of the standard expiring?

Thanks!

My truck has not been perfect but I have never had to fight the dealer over getting things fixed in a timely manner. Of course, you’re gonna hear a ton of different opinions and experiences, some dealers are bad and some are great. But for me, I drop it off, get a free loaner and go on my way.

As far as the warranty...not something I buy, but GM does sell an official extended plan (much like Ford). I would consider that one for sure if I were keeping the truck long term. The rest of the plans seem more like a scam than anything.

On my prior vehicle I had a couple of minor issues and my dealer was great. I had zero issues with them, they fixed my truck and were great to me. I haven't had any issues with my 2020 but I have no reason to believe that they will be any different. I know other people have had issues but I haven't. I think it all depends on the specific dealership.

I've only had a a couple of recalls and one major problem, which was a leak in the rear window. Dealership replaced the window with a new one. I didn't have to fight them over it. It did take 27 days but it was do to getting the window. They gave me a 2020 Blazer to drive as  a loaner while my Silverado was being repaired. I can't say this would be the case at every dealership. I would like to think so, but I can only say Sunset in Sumner, WA  did and awesome job of fixing my truck right.

I only buy new vehicles. I've been in quite a few different dealerships and the only time I hear about warranty problems is when some person brings a vehicle in for warranty and they have done major mods to it.

Can't blame them I guess.

This is a dealer issue, and not a Chevrolet/GMC issue.  The same applies to any car maker.  Some dealers just don't care or treat you like you are taking money out of their pocket.

Thanks all for the insight so far, and I totally agree.  I have a great Chevy/GM dealer and a great Ford dealer, so should be good either way.  Last question I have, Ford has 2 or 3 dealers that sell extended warranties online (Ford ESP,  not 3rd party) at a hugely reduced price.  Do you guys negotiate the extended warranties?  Is there a site or auto group that sells them cheaper?

thanks again!

plenty of companies sell them and yes they are negotiable....they mark them up pretty high

get a quote for one before you go to purchase the truck, use that as benchmark

another member here bought a truck and dealer wanted like $3400 for warranty, he went to his credit union I believe and got a price of $1500, used that to get the dealer down to $1300.....this may not be exact but its really close

FWIW...I didn't buy one and finance guy was pissed....he tried like 4 times to sell it to me
