2020 HD Seats: Owner Feedback

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at the new 2500 HD (LT/LTZ) gas crew cabs. One issue that I have seen come up (other than the 6 speed trans instead of the 10) in a couple of reviews is the seat comfort. We are a family of five an typically tow around 5-7K per year so we want seats that are comfortable over the long haul. Can owners provide feedback on the seat comfort? I'm thinking that I may wait until the 10 speed is offered with the gas engine to pull the trigger. Thanks

I have the exact truck you are looking to buy.

I traded from a 2019 1500 T1 due to towing my 38’ camper-

I can tell you the seats in the 2020HD are much more comfortable. They look the same but they obviously changed something.  I think the seat is comfy- could be a little longer for better thigh support (I’m 6’).

The kids love the back seat- the heated feature is a bonus and the armrest is a hit. Tons of room back there too!
Now my wife- HATES the passenger seat. She prefers plush /soft seats.  Coming from her ‘18 Civic Touring I can see her point.  Those seats are really nice but on the small side.

Honestly, it’s all subjective anyway.  If the dealer won’t let you take an extended test drive, go to another dealer!

Good luck!

PS- I wouldn’t worry about the 6 speed.  I find it to be a perfect match- smooth as well.  My camper is 8,000lbs and it tows so nice!

You are so right!  My back and I often have disagreements on what is comfortable!   I can be sitting in a comfy luxury sedan and not be able to stand up after an hour long drive.   I take the same trip in my pickup and experience minimal upset.  On longer trips my wife packs a blanket and travel pillow.  With her seat slightly reclined, she enjoys long drives in any vehicle!  I also agree with your advice on the six speed.

idk if they are same as 1500 but my seats are pretty rock hard....I didn't own chevy before so idk what they used to be like....me as well think bottom portion of seat is so short....I am 6ft tall and have very little support on my hamstrings, seat stops well short of back of my knees....and if you tilt it up it gets even shorter.....I guess could get an aftermarket thing for long drives but haven't used it yet for long trip.....but yeah theyre will always be some who like both....

Seat comfort is very subjective - however my opinion is the 2020 HD's took a significant step backwards in both seat comfort as well as quality of seat covering.  I have a Denali 3500HD.  Had a '17 and a '18 before this, both Denali HD's.  Leather was much softer in previous generation and the seats cushions were both softer in sections and more supportive in others.

Seats in the 2020 aren't horrible by any means and as far as a pickup truck goes, they're very good.  As far as an 80k top-of-the-line luxury pickup truck is concerned, they are significantly lacking.  Have a 2020 BMW X7 M50i and a 2018 BMW M5 - GM could learn a few things from BMW in this space.  Really looking forward to the upgraded interior that's been rumored within the next few years on the half and HD twins.

When I was trying to decide what to do about my 2020 Chevy High Country (long story can be found elsewhere if you're really interested), I tested Ford's Limited 250, GMC's AT4, and RAM's Limited, I really didn't have the High Country long enough to make a good decision. I found both the Ford and RAM had softer seats, and the GMC was a bit more stiff. But that doesn't make it bad. After a couple of long trips now with the GMC SLT that I bought as a replacement to the Chevy High Country, I find them very acceptable. I do hope they eventually soften up a tiny bit, but I don't find them as bad as most reviewers do. I'm really not sure what reviewers expect, they hammer the interior (no, none of the GM products are as gorgeous as the RAM), but I actually think the functionality of the GM interior is better than that of the Ford by quite a bit. I'm just not sure what expectations are for things like seat comfort maybe. I like my seat a bit, like my bed and pillow, a bit more firm and maybe that's why the GM interior seats work for me, I don't know. But you will definitely need to decide for yourself on this one.

i also think the seats are very acceptable, they are firm but seem to be just fine.i  just did a 550 mile trip towing the trailer this past weekend and there were no issues in comfort at all but everybody is different. appearance to me is also fine, i prefer the functional look of the GM interiors compared to the dodges myself. just too much going on in the dodges interior for my liking.

a quick note on the 6 speed, it seems to do the job just fine. no complaints. so far.... at 5500 miles the truck has been better than i could hope for.

I think the seats are a little firmer than the seats were in my ‘15 2500.

I don’t mind it, it’s not uncomfortable for me at all.

I also think there’s 2 ways to think about it, comfort vs durability.

The seats in my ‘15 were breaking down a little after 100k miles. I think the seats in this truck will last longer, so I like that for sure.

I think you just need to test drive and see whether you like it or not.

It's a funny thing how I see the seat and ride comfort. I find the seats to be firm, but comfortable. I've had a F250 Platinum before the new Silverado and here is my take:

The Ford has softer seats, but a stiffer ride and the Chevrolet has firmer seats but a softer ride. Almost like a trade off. Honestly, the solid front axle in the Ford makes the biggest difference in the ride.

I also have a 1999 GMC that I purchased new. Just a couple months ago I finally had to replace the cover on the driver's seat bottom. All of the cushioning was still in great shape.

My experience is that heated and cooled the seats are firmer than seats without those options.  My 08 2500HD without heating/cooling were softer and arguably more comfortable than my new 2020 with heated/cooled seats. I don't think you can find a high end truck without heating/cooling and I do like the heat in the winter, so it's a trade off.
