Lowering an inch or two

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I want to see which way people have lowered their trucks. I do not ever plan on going lower then 2 inches at the most.

I do not plan to take it off road, i daily my truck (36 miles a day, 70% hwy). I want to know, if anyone has done this yet, what gas mileage looks like after, how does the truck feel after, how did you do it, what else would you do if you had the chance again?

I know how to set pinion angles so that shouldn't be a problem. I also what to do a rear sway bar (hellwig 7780) but right now they are too expensive.

I only lowered the rear 2" using drop shackles.  Now the truck is level.  I had to spin the factory pinion shim.  There's some threads on here with lowered front/rear trucks and just some with just rear shackles.  Some others may chime in.

Thanks!  They're OE Creations 2019 GM style PR196 22" distributed through Wheel Pros.  These wheels have a flawless chrome finish (not PVD spray chrome) and required very little weight to balance.  OE Creations are as nice of a wheel you will find with a perfect fit that clears the new 4 piston calipers.

Belltech and McGaughys make 2" drop spindles. Ihs makes a 3" control arm setup. The biggest problem is the back. You can't put hangers on the T1 trucks. So to lower the back you can do a 2" shackle. If you need more than 2" a flip kit is the next option which drops the rear 6". At 6" the axle has no travel so a lifting shackle would need to be used but even then rear travel will be limited without a c notch. The other option to lower the front is a adjustable strut but I have not heard from anyone that has used one on the new trucks. From what I have been told, on the older trucks the adjustable strut does not ride as good as the stock suspension. Maybe someone can chime in that has used a drop strut. The cool thing about the strut is the height can be adjusted between 1' and 2".
