2020 3500 Diesel DRW HC Pkge. Please Toyota-Make the Big Trucks!

I bought a 15,000 lb. 5th wheel RV (loaded) to live in since I just retired. To pull it, I bought the new 2020 3500 Silverado Diesel DRW/ High Country Package. GVWR around 31,000 lbs. Truck cost around $70,000. I've been a Chevy truck man for 50 years. My father and all my brothers have been Chevy guys. I'll never own another GMC or Chevy after buying this POS new truck. I've NEVER had a Toyota car I didn't get 300K miles on easy with almost zero issues from all 6 of them.

 

Upon delivery about 5 weeks ago, this new truck vibrated and had "shimy shake". After 2 trips to the dealer, had 2 tires balanced (one way out of balance), plus had tires inflated to specs (tire pressure ranged from low 70s to high 80s), plus the front end was out of alignment. This is right off the delivery truck on a $70K truck. Poor QA for sure. Truck still pulls to the right some. I'll f/u on this in the next few weeks. Just 3 days ago I started having electrical problems. Could be a wiring harness, body modulator, driver window motor etc. Driver window control button does not work, driver door ajar light on, interior dome lights will not come on, and driver windows lock 

does not work. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. If any of you Flint Mich. folks who actually "build" these trucks are tuned in please hear me clear. You need to strike less and QA more because you are headed to extinction as soon as Toyota, Honda etc starts making the big trucks. I shall not shed a tear and will def. lobby my congress for "no bail out". Last one to leave the Flint Mich. plant, please turn out the lights. 

I apologize for the direct language, but we out here work hard for our money. Not to mention the time it takes us to deal with these problems your poor QA caused.

Please Toyota, get into the big truck business. I'll sell this POS and buy the first one.

Based on Toyota full size and Hondas truck sales I don't believe they are too worried. Sorry you are having problems but that is clearly not the norm, best of luck getting your issues taken care of. Agree q.a. can always be better at all manufacturers.

I don't think Toyota will ever get into the 2500/3500 market simply because that's not how they operate.  But I will admit, if Toyota did happen to get into the market I would probably be one of the first ones to jump over.

 

There is a company based around San Antonio TX that does diesel conversions for Toyotas.  dieseltoys.com

I do believe there are huge tariffs on medium and heavy duty trucks, and that is why they stay with light duties...

Friend of mine in Illinois said his construction company is union and they MUST buy american brand and built heavy duty trucks.   Unbelievable....  I think its for tax deduction/credit reasons.

 

but sounds like u got a lemon.  Take copious notes and documentation, and give GM every last opportunity to fix your truck before claiming lemon law.

 

Keep in mind you are driving first gen of the redesign.   Certain kinks are bound to happen.  I know its a pain in the rear, but you own a camper so Im sure you are used to manufacturing QA issues lol.

No I hear ya brother, my new 2020 2500HD has been at the dealership more times in the last 3 months than my Tundra has for its entire 7 years of existence. By double. 

 

Guess what? My 2500HD is back at the dealer AGAIN. I will NEVER buy another GM product.

Sounds like some loyal brand buyers are really not brand loyal. Toyota has had numerous quality issues as they have grown in volume just the same as other large manufacturers. Sludging 4 cyl . Camry's in the late 90's come to mind along with rotting franes on tacomas in the mid 2000's. I guess the Tundra with its well below average fuel efficiency and dated design is and should be reliable since it has not changed in a decade and a half.

My 2020 3500 just got back from its shakedown dealer visit with 8800 miles, most of it was just poor QA.  We shall see what happens going forward, if it didn't cost so much for the emissions stuff to fall off I would have already done it!  

 

I think I had 2 recalls done, A/C dial cluster was replaced, oil cooler gaskets replaced, cam shaft seal replaced.

It’s funny the OP thinks the employees who build the trucks have any input. You stop that line you at risk of being thrown out for a work stoppage. Take your grievance with the bean counters at the renn center.

Kidding aside, I've also found myself pondering if I'd consider a Tundra if I was let down enough by my GM trucks.. thing is.. I haven't been let down enough to really do it.  You have 2 other options out there.. Ford and Dodge.  Both brands have had their issues in the past, but they both make good trucks now a days.  Are they perfect?  no.  But neither is GM.  But if you are not happy with your GM, go try a Ford or a Dodge.  And don't base your experience with them 20 years ago on how they are now.  Things change.  You may find that you like it.  We have people who come over here after being let down by Ford, Dodge, Crapota, and Nissan, and we have those who go over to those brands because they have been let down by GM.  There is not one clear winner.

I have a 2020 Silverado 3500 with single wheels.    I had some of the same issues but a lot of it was corrected at Chevrolet dealer.     The big thing with mine was the shake on rough roads and many times it felt like the road had more control of the truck than I did.   

 

I did what Dan in another post on this forum that did had similar issues.  I bought and installed the SuspensionMAXX Steering Stabilizer Kit  SPX-SMX-SSB2520K.     I know many people would say I'm crazy for doing it to a $70,000 truck less than two months old but it was well worth the $150 and hour to install myself.    It drives much more like the 2017 & 2019 HD's I was used to driving.
