Should I get the big bad 6.2

Recommended Posts

Hi ChevyGuy273 - I apologize if your question was answered already, I just joined the forum and did not read all pages of replies to your original question. Here is my 2cents ... I just took ownership of a 2020 TrailBoss LT, 5.3, 10 speed in Dec 2019.  I chose it because I didn't choose it ... it was coming into the dealership I deal with and my previous ride gave up on me. They had ordered it for their lot. I owned a 2007 Tahoe which was a 6 speed, 5.3L, I loved that truck. However, this TB is light years ahead of my Tahoe. There is no comparison. This truck is so much more responsive and much better on gas. And my opinion is not biased ... I have to be honest ... my other car is a 2015 Chevy SS Sedan. It has a 415 HP (more with minor mods) 6.2 LS3 v8. So I know what a 6.2 can do. So again ... I am happy with my 2020 TB 5.3, 10sp and what it can do.

Hi there. I’m new to the forum also. Please feel free to read the prior 6 pages if you have the time. Some of the replies and opinions are hilarious. And some like the idiot making fun of the rear window problem probably don’t even drive an automobile. I’m glad you like your 2020 TB 5.3, 10sp. I love the looks of the TB. But I’m 51. And that extra several inches in lift for my aging middle aged body to exert extra effort to hurdle will prematurely cause more wear and tear on this middle aged dinosaur. Plus. I just love chrome. I haven’t owned a pickup truck in 30 years. So. For me. I chose the LTZ cc sb 6.2 Z-71. It’s on order right now. I won’t see it until sometime in mid to late April. The wait is driving me crazy. I’m like a 6 year old kid the night before Christmas.

Truth. My only speeding ticket was obtained in my old 5.3, literally on the way home from the dealer. These newer trucks are hard to judge speed in if you were going from an older model. So quiet and relaxed, you really don’t really get a sense of speed. That’s the only thing that saps some of the fun out of the 6.2 vs having it in a car!

As I’ve said, the 19+ 5.3 is even better. I know it’s the same power as 2014-18, but they sure did “tune it up” a bit.

Good time to be a truck buyer when even the little 2.7 would smoke a 5.3 from the 2000s. The 4.3 probably would too.

that's is so true!

first month ..when I looked down at speedo I was shocked how fast I was driving multiple times as it didn't feel like I was going that fast.....if feels like I am crawling at same speed I drove my last truck @

yeah that's along time, think I would probably just "go" get it from wherever.....check out the 2500hd forums on guys checking their status codes (at least 20 plus different codes) everyday waiting for their trucks....I don't understand why they wont just put it on flatbed and transport it.....afterall the destination cost of almost 2k is ridiculous.....

think a plane ticket would be in my near future. lol

rear window is easy...….take truck back to service and have them flood it with a hose and inspect it b4 signing....if that's only discrepancy between a sale am sure they would do it

Two of them??? ... Awesome! What's the diff outside of color? One stick, one auto? Any mods besides wheels on Red? I don't want to steal this forum from the great pickups we have, perhaps we can take the SS talk somewhere else. Are you on the SS Forums? I am, same name - rmastow.

I can easily argue with that. Half the people on here don't "need" a truck to drive back and forth to work. They "want" to drive a truck as a daily driver. They don't "need" to buy a Silverado they "want" to buy a Silverado. They don't "need" a lift on their truck. They "want" a lift on their truck. Ect, ect, ect. The point is they are making the payments and it puts a smile on their face to pay for what they want. It's not up to someone's option that has different wants and needs to tell them they are dumb for their purchase.

I agree with Car Dude. For most of us, it's not a matter of "need", it's a matter of "want". I never had a pickup before my current 2020 TB LT 5.3 10sp that I got a few months ago. I didn't need the 2" lift, the off-road tires, etc, because I had never gone off roading before.  But damn it caught my eye and it makes me want to try something new ... to go off-roading. I think I'll try it and most likely enjoy it. Now I just have to find a place around NJ that I can try it. My past few car purchases have not been sensible purchases. I like my cars and want to enjoy driving them. I'm not really caring what other folks think. My rides put a smile on my face. That's all that counts.

2017 red hot 2 manual no sunroof no spare 1 of 5 as optioned ordered new

2017 slip stream blue no sunroof with spare 1 of 18 as optioned purchased in memphis tn with 7k miles (52 hour 2400 mile round trip to get).
Red is my summer sunday and show car 7k miles on it, rims rotors pads and subs only changes, blue is wifes daily driver 25k miles has has most trim pieces changed to black and different rims for the summer with added sub also.

on ss fourm kevin0311 and she is on the fb one

the 6.2 in the car vs the truck imo only share displacement as the power curve and response are quite different as they should be. I had a older 5.3 that seemed overworked where the 6.2 seems like takes less throttle to get going with the landscaping trailer i drag around all spring to fall months.

Hey lapoolboy. What exactly do you drive for a vehicle? Do you know from personal experience of the rear window leak? Help me out here? I’m a newbie.

Hey there!  Thanks for your interest in my vehicle!  I drive a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Z71.  Summit white in color.  No major mods other than the GM 2" lift kit and 1.5" RC leveling kit.

As for the rear window leak, here are 121 pages to get you started.  Enjoy.

Nice looking truck! I like that it looks almost like a 3/4 ton. I see you don’t care for assist steps/running boards. Dam. You got me thinking. My satin steel metallic LTZ would look awesome with just the GM 2 inch lift. And a 1.5 leveling kit. Oh. About the window leak. I’ve already read all the pages. I’m hoping mine will be built without the oem GM leak. Im glad to know where to look for it. And there is a proper fix for it.
