Error Code History

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if there is a history log where past error codes have been stored that GM can access and if they are time stamped? My truck is still sitting at the dealership with brake issues. Now the dealership is acting like my EBCM was just bad and there was nothing wrong with the programming. This was with PIT 5728B installed on the module. I know this is not the newest "fix" for these brake failures. There were 3 error codes before the dealership cleared them, one being brake module system malfunction. Once these were cleared 4 new error codes were thrown showing that the update was not installed correctly on the brake module. They are currently waiting for a new EBCM to come in and will be programming it with software from the last recall my truck was included in. My truck was not included in the 1/30/20 or 1/31/20 recall for an updated fix as I never had the recall performed in mid December that they are alleging was part of the cause for brake failures. If it's possible I would like to get a history report on what those codes were because the dealership is less than forthcoming with information for me.

I believe the codes will stay  as long as 1. The Battery is not disconnected. 2. Some conditions will cause the codes to clear if the conditions fix themselves. [rarely happens] 3. Dealership or someone does not clear the codes thru an OBDII Tool. 4. Tech reprograms a module that might clear the module codes. Codes will stay there unless cleared. Best way to get the codes is get a OBDII tool to read the codes.
