DRW With Engine "Thud" & Steering Shake

Recommended Posts

Been lurking here for months and finally decided to sign up and post. I just got my dually on 2/3 and immediately noticed the steering wheel shake and engine "thud," as I describe it.

I was shocked my dually had the steering issue, as most have been on the 20" wheels and Goodyear tires. I have the 17's with the new Michelin Primacy XC All Terrains. Good news, however. I took it to America's Tire to have them check the balance and Road Force numbers on the fronts (easier and faster than dealer). Long story short, the driver's side front was way out of spec on Road Force - no way to correct. They called Michelin, and they agreed to replace the tire at no charge. It is now all fixed and better!!!  I was worried I might be chasing this like others.

The engine thud / knock is annoying as Hell, but it sounds like a pump or injector to me. Seems slower than engine speed so suggests it is not part of the rotating assembly...

Also, just towed my 5th wheel down to have the TPMS sensors installed. Had the issue where the left signal did not activate the camera - right side did. I think someone said to just disconnect and reconnect.  I will see what it does when I pick it up.

We are replacing equal amounts of michelin and goodyear tires.  Any brand of tire can get flat spotted if it sits too long.

Thanks for the reply. Will tires get flat spots if not on a vehicle?  My truck was built on 1/6, and I took delivery on 2/3...

I would tend to agree that probably not even time for flat spotting.  All the dually tire and wheels are a direct carryover from previous gen truck.

I ordered it with the All Terrains, and they are actually a brand new Michelin tire. I think they were released with this year's DRW's. Primacy XC All Terrain. They are not the AT2's...
