Any Mopar Muscle fans?

While I bleed Chevy and am Bowtie to the bone, I have a soft spot for Mopar Muscle cars. I'm talking old muscle not that piece of shit new Challenger.

A buddy of mine just finished up this 72 Demon

 Fresh .040 over 340

Huge cam, 2 450 Holleys on a weiand tunnel ram

727 torque flight 2800 stall

Dana 60  4.10 gears

For some reason the sound isn't working.

It sounds real healthy.

I definitely had more GMs. My second car was a barracuda. I also had a 69 plum crazy road runner a 69 gts 340 dart and test drove a 77 RT, roadrunner for one weekend. A total piece. Oh yeah a 65 push button Plymouth. The 77 kept me out of Chrysler cars. I stay with GM cars until the end of rear drive Impala.

Count me in.  My first car was a 69 Dart 2 door with a 318.  I never did a lot to it, but for the early to mid 80’s it ran pretty decent.  It was a little quicker than an ‘85 tuned port Camaro for example.  But I still had a lot of fun in that thing.

The year was 1979.

The fastest car I ever rode in (top end wise)  was a high school buddies 70 Cuda. Car needed a paint job but under the hood was all business.

built 383, huge 4bbl on a high rise, lumpy cam with huge duration, hooker headers, easily 475 hp maybe 500. Built auto trans with shift kit, 3.08 gears. Tall gears for a Cuda.

Two lane hwy just out of town. 2am drunk and dumb. We turned out of a four way stop and my buddy stood on it and let it eat. Nothing like a big block Mopar singing along at 6000+rpm. 2nd gear was good for 90mph.

We passed a cop coming at us the other way. The speedometer went to 150 and it was way buried like straight down. I'm guessing we were rolling about 160-165 . There was more left im pretty sure it was still climbing.

He turned around but we were already a mile away from him. Turned off hwy and hit some side streets. Pulled in a driveway and parked on side of garage. Waited about 1/2 hour and straight to my buddy's garage  a mile away.

That could have ended bad. Bad bad.

That car could go from 50 to 125 in a heartbeat. And scare the shit right out of ya.

That memory alone is a major reason for the Mopar love.

Another high school buddy had a 69 Charger 440 Six pack 4speed pistol grip shifter. 4.11 Dana . Same deal needed paint Bondo bucket but was all business under the hood. This one was really all business for 1320 ft.

440 bored .030 over .  All the goodies MSD ignition. Bigger carbs. Crane cam . Hooker headers. Heads were done by a local drag racing guru. It was around 570hp if I remember. It ran low 11's and would pin you deep in the seat back. Fun times.

I love ‘em! My almost first car was a stock blue 305 4 spd ‘69 Camaro for 800 bucks back in ‘85 . Seller promised to sell it to me while I was saving some money, but he sold it to someone else...sooooo I wound up getting a plain Jane ‘72 Barracuda for $1,500 bucks! Aztec Gold 318, 3 speed manual! Back in ‘04 I got my hand on a ‘71 Challenger , B5 blue, auto with a 440 in it ( fender tag called for an original 383 4 bbl ( N code) Car had alot of crazy options in it, a/c, 3 speed wipers, power windows to name a few. It was a little rough, so I wound up selling to someone who then flipped it to someone up in Canada for a frame off rotisserie resto.

A friend of mine had a nice ‘70 ‘Cuda, with a 383 6 bbl. He totalled that, pulled the engine out and put it in a ‘71 Barracuda! I think he wound up selling it for $1,500 in 1986! Imagine a ‘71 going for that today? Oh the ‘80’s when “muscle” cars could be had for peanuts, they were just old hot rods that no one wanted then......
