if you don't want a truck like mine don't buy one

Would be great if more took this approach on their responses.

If you started a Go Fund me page for help with payments, then their opinions might mean more since they would be funding your purchase.

Probably first and foremost that pertains to many truck owners that get all huffy puffy about a V8 is he isn't concerned about his image and rather what his real uses are; and like many that don't have a need for 12k towing a 2.7 is right up their alley. Better mpg, lower costs and purchase price so they aren't going in to debt carrying a note for something that is not what they want or have an actual use for. That is a start. Quite frankly I don't know why you would want a V8 if you are just commuting to work and back every day, never towing and only hauling the occasional IKEA or Lowe's run... Besides, who said that isn't what he wants to begin with?

Donate Plasma to afford a truck, really??? ?

Tyler

I know it’s not what he wants to begin with because he’s started like 18 other threads in the past week and has mentioned it. He’s trying to compromise as opposed to getting exactly what he wants.

While I do agree that the 2.7 is adequate for what most people will need so is the Honda Ridgeline. I don’t want a Ridgeline just like I’m sure you don’t either.

I was just giving him so ideas with the plasma. He had mentioned he couldn’t really afford the truck he wanted. For an extra 2-3 hours a month he could then get the truck he wants as opposed to settling on something he doesn’t love.

0-60 I think they are very similar. Now load them up and the 5.3 has the advantage. The 5.3 just feels lethargic every time I’ve driven one. Maybe the 10 speed really wakes it up but it’s just very slow to rev while the 4 pot jumps out due to the low end turbo torque. GM needs to give the 5.3 more power , I know some guys say it’s fine but it needs more oomph

I have a 5.3 6 speed. I do agree at times it does feel lethargic but once you hit 3500-4000 RPMs it really picks up.

That’s where I feel the 2.7 would be better. Doesn’t it make max tq at like 1500 RPMs?

Part of GMs problem is they gear their trucks so high. I drove a Ram with their 3.92 rear end and it was night and day difference in initial pick up from the 5.3 and 6.2. Gearing can do a lot.

Comparing apples to oranges my '16 was no speed demon compared to the '19.........similar horsepower ratings don't mean crap when comparing an old gen 5.3 AFM 6 speed vs. a 5.3 DFM 8 speed. Had them both and the '19 's latter combo is definitely faster.

Equipped with similar 8 speeds you don't have to be a mathematician to figure out that a 2.7T baby diesel rated at 310 hp and 355 lb ft. of torque is weaker than a 5.3 DFM with 355 hp and 383 lb ft of torque. And the $1400 in MSRP saved buying an LT with the cheaper diesel is soon pissed away and the amount saved getting an extra 3 mpg is a joke when compared to diesel costing up to 20% more than gasoline for the lifetime of the vehicle plus the cost of all that DEF that you have to stand outside and funnel into a separate fuel tank. And that's not even figuring in the loss of trade in value when time to trade in with the smaller engine.

Typical Tomcat diesel hate reply... yet we aren’t talking about diesels.

Why are a few of you even making this personal between each other? OP asked a question if anyone has experience with the 2.7 and the assumptions of budget come into play lol. 2.7 has its plus and minus just like every other vehicle and motor on the road today. It’s like whenever I bring up Amsoil, here come the Internet trolls with their negativity. Some people just handle change for the better lol!

OP, If it’s what you want, GO FOR IT! Most truck owners will never ever think of owning a truck with a 4cylinder but this doesn’t mean it’s bad, most wont use their trucks for what they’re intended for anyway.

Best advice I can give you: Wealthy people have money because they don’t spend it on what they want, only on what they need.
