Towing really heavy loads, what else do I need to know?

Nice video. I’ve been wrestling with the diesel vs gas deal myself. I tow 9-10k travel trailer about 10-12 times a year and would love the diesel for those few days but I’m worried about all the emissions problems. Nice to see a real “real world” towing video.

Just think if you would have got the diesel and  make the pull to Florida 81 times you could get your initial of cost difference back in fuel savings ?. Oops I forgot about def and fuel filter changes . Looks like a pleasant pull . Thank you for clearing things up

excellent video.  thanks for taking the time to make it.  I made the same gas vs diesel decision.  I have a 2020 GMC Sierra 2500 CCSB gasser on order.  Should be here in another month or so.  I am trading in my 2011 GMC duramax.  Tons of power, great tow vehicle EXCEPT the emissions stuff will make you nuts.  Replaced 3 nitrogen sensors, DEF tank, DPF fuel injector, and my EGR has been acting up.  All covered under extended warranty but not fun getting stranded while on a trip.  I was pulling a 11,500 lbs  34 foot fifth wheel for 9 years.  NOw I have a 28 ft bumper pull trailer.  will I miss the exhaust brake, good mileage and strong motor ?  yes, but I can live with it.  thanks again one of the best videos I have viewed and I've seen a bunch.

Here’s mine at 61 mph and 71mph . Travel travel total length 35.7 . Box is around 31. Minus the truck it 8505# today but we usually load it more . Mileage very close to my 09 Duramax with same height tires . Very impressed with the low end torque . It runs 5th gear mostly and doesn’t downshift much at all . No problem getting up to speed . No regret with going with gas

A lot of great info here everyone! Thank you to everyone chiming in with photos and videos! It was nice to see a normal every day video as to what one could expect.

dalek77 I got some interesting info from a user with a similar setup. Granted he has a DRW (2018 Chevy 3500) but he’s pulling a 381M. The loaded numbers were quite interesting/surprising... in a good way. He mentioned the fresh water tanks (2) are over the axles. The rear black/grey tank is behind the axles, and the forward black and the kitchen/shower grey is just forward of the axles.

I’m curious to see how your truck/trailer end up being after you’re fully loaded up, if you hit the CAT scale [emoji3526]

(2018 Silverado 3500 DRW + 2019 Momentum 381M + 2 quads + full water + 30g gas in trailer gas tanks)

Truck Unhooked:

FA = 4820

RA = 3760

GW = 8,580

Truck Hooked:

FA = 4860

RA = 6840

Trailer Axle = 15,780

GCW = 27,480

PIN = 3,120

Pin % = 16.5%

I'll know my CAT weights in 2 weeks. I also asked my GD rep where the water tanks were to confirm.

Here you go. First with truck, my wife and I. Then with 351M right off the lot. Genny, full propane tanks. I have the reese goosebox, so that's a 230 lb pinbox. Tows great! My GD rep never came through with water tank location, but I believe they are right in front of axles. Haven't done a test weigh with them filled yet.

I have a GD 351M and can confirm the tanks are on either side of the axels. towed it last year with a '17 F250 w/ air bags, was technically overweight but pulled it just fine, cant wait to see how my '20 duramax handles it!

Oh it will tow it just fine! Only a 2 3/4" drop, no air bags needed. It lvls the truck out.20200227_135642.jpg

That'd be great, only I already leveled the truck. Considering putting bags in again so I'm not pointing at the stars(exageration), will see whats its like in a few weeks

Do you have a front leveling kit only or the 3+1 adding 1” to the rear?

I’m wanting to do a leveling kit as well, let me know how it sits.

i cranked the keys up as far as they'd go, its still about 1/2" lower in the front but im fine with that since it gives me some room for squat when towing.
